Hi everybody! I need help with my graphics problem for SWBFII.
For some reason certain maps are really glitchy with the lighting or something like that. I was wondering if there is a mod that fixes this? Or maybe a mod someone can make that fixes this?

Here is a topic I made in tech support a while ago but I don't think people saw it. :(
forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=28531
Also a bunch of mod maps don't work.
Hi Gametoast! I need help to fix a graphics problem for SWBFII.

Maps that do NOT work:
Dagobah
Endor
Felucia
Hoth
Kamino
Kashyyyk
Mustafar
Mygeeto
Jabba's Palace
and Yavin IV.

Notice the only thing not all red or white is the sky. All the terrain etc. is a red, white.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Given the graphics card specifications you posted in your old thread I'm surprised the game runs. Honestly my best advice is (if you have a desktop or tower PC) to buy a 20-30 dollar graphics card and use that.

Yea I absolutely HATE my graphics card. It runs any game horribly. But on all low settings certain games are playable.
The thing is, it is a laptop computer. I'm actually on a Mac (10.5.8), but before you suspect me of anything, I run it using wine (windows emulator) I have my own copy of the game.

So do you know what could be causing this? The sky dome perhaps? Maybe changing the lighting on a map would fix the problem? It really sucks that I can't play more than half the stock maps and mod maps. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wine can sometimes be the issue, not everything works when run using wrappers. I'm surprised it ran in the first place. If you're using a Mac then use bootcamp to install the game on the OS it was designed to run on. Though if you're on 10.5 I'm guessing it's a G4 or G5 macbook pro, so PPC processor and not Intel, so you can't use bootcamp.

On the other hand if your computer is compatible with 10.6+ and you never upgraded then I suggest you upgrade it and install bootcamp and windows, then install SWBII normally.

I'm on an Intel Macbook, but I can't update my OS. I did install the game on a PC emulator so that isn't the problem. Also I tested it on another newer Mac laptop and it didn't have that problem. So I know that it is my graphics card.
So do you guys think the sky dome could be causing that to happen? Or what other factors?

Well I don't know if the sky dome or anything else would be effecting it, it sounds like your computer has other problems, what with not being able to upgrade. Emulation requires some power if you want quality, your computer simply may not be able to run the os and emulate another properly. I have the first generation intel macbook pro and emulating isn't its strong point, bootcamp is flawless on the other hand, windows runs beautifully. I can help you better if I know the exact model you have, what is your Model Identifier code? Can be found at About this mac< System Report< Hardware Overview.

Well it can run other types of wrappers (SWBFI, Republic Commando), my graphics card is the problem.
The computer I use is actually my Dad's old one and he still has the admin account, so I won't be able to go into bootcamp or update my OS (even if I could). I am pretty limited with what games I can run.

Here's this info:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2

Is there some sort of Online Compatible map replacement (myg.lvl etc.) that will fix the problem I'm having?

^ Downscales textures for those with older computers.

Also it may be helpful to download 3DAnalyzer and run BFII through it while experimenting with the options.

Why not upgrade to a normal PC? you can find some okay ones for under $850. Here's my uncles computer that he gave me, and boy its a lemon but it still plays swbf2

intel pentium 4 3.2 ghz
nvidia geforce 7600gt
2gb DDR2 1330 mhz RAM (if I recal correctly)
ocean spray case
antec 600w PSU
asus p5ld2 deluxe motherboard
IDE HDD 250gb (or so)
1 LG dvd reader
1 LG dvd read/write/burn/etc.

I use this PC solely for swbf2 and runescape, works great. Any PC you find on the market today will DEFINITELY beat this. Intel dual core processors beat pentium 4, even at slower (2.4ghz) clock speeds. You might have a 300W PSU but thats not a problem for low end GPU's. Also, I am pretty sure for swbf2 you need a dedicated video card. Or if its integrated it has to be moderately good. I have no experience whatsoever with mac's, so I cant help you there. Windows is the way to go, and always will be the way to go for me (with the exception of windows 8 but its not THAT bad, or as bad as people make it out to be. My laptop runs windows 8.)

As for the graphics fix mod hopefully you can find a link. best of luck with the graphics mod or shopping for a new PC

Well I have tried that downscale texture thing and it still doesn't work. And I am not ever going to get a PC so that is out of the question.

The reason I keep thinking it has something to do with the sky, lighting or something like that is because that downscale texture thing doesn't work AND mod maps with a certain type of sky never work (snow, mustafar). I can run the same conversion done by 2 different people and one will have the bug, and the other won't.

Is there something I can test using the fakeconsole? :? Is it possible to change the lighting scheme on stock maps to fit with the maps I know works?

Right, you will never get a pc because? .... Because you won't, I guess. :?

Download- http://games.softpedia.com/get/Tools/3D-Analyze.shtml

Select your Battlefront2.exe and on the right you will see many options, some including lighting.
I suggest maybe selecting "Force SW TnL", "Emulate HW TnL Caps", "Emulate Other DX8.1 Caps",
and select "Performance Mode" on the bottom. Run it, go to your Video settings and make sure
everything is still set to as low as it will go (Sometimes it may change it when you first run), and
test and see if it works. You may also want to do some of the Video Cards options on there as well. If nothing works I don't know what else to tell you, however if it does work. Go back to 3DAnalyzer, select everything, don't run it though, go to the bottom and select "Save Batch File!". This will
create a shortcut for you that will open everything up for you so you won't have to go through this process everytime. Good luck to you!

Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade your graphics card. The GMA 950 is integrated with the motherboard, but you may have already known that. My solution is either finding a way to get your computer upgraded in order to dual boot, which would normally fix a lot of problems Wine may create. Some people here posted some options of other computers, a great solution, I understand that that is out of the question however, but these solutions will most likely fix your problems. You have a very old computer, and though the other games you have may work, sometimes Wine just can't wrap some things and they must be run natively on the os they were made for. Try the 3D Analyzer option though, there's a possibility it could do something, otherwise I'm out of solutions for your current situation, as most of the things everyone has suggested, you can't do.

I can't get a PC beacuse, well I just can't. I wish I could though. :(

So I tried the 3D analyze thing and it didn't work. I guess I will just have to wait until I get a new computer in a couple years. Thanks for helping guys.
