The chin points downwards a little waaay too much, unless you are going for the cartoon style of modeling.

I like to see a more artistic take on things and it does look more appealing; The only thing I would suggest is to make the rest of the model similar to the helmet, cause otherwise you'll have a sleek helmet on a not so sleek body, but I really like the work.

I sort-off am. I based the entire head of a concept drawing from the small concept-art booklet that comes with the TCW S1 DVD box. The texture will be slightly cartoonish as well, but in a nice, subtle way. (at least I hope so

)

I am working on this, but I didn't think the rest of the body was good enough to show. (yet)
I think I worked out the UV lay-out, but I wouldn't know for sure. Does anybody want to comment on that, since that was my biggest focus for this project?

@mswf: you could do the following:
so you wont get stretched texture on the...things.

Nice, looks like a N64 Mario kart racer. Hmmm... how about a Mario kart mod? it would be a great idea and i think we could take the track N64 Rainbow road xD.
Ps: If someone is interested at this idea then send me a message.

I finished the helmet:
Texture is 100% scratchmade, without the use of
any filter, smear, blur or sharpening.
Comments?
On to the next of the body
@ Andeweget
Thanks for your advice, but I had already finished the texture of that part and I rather liked it, so I decided not to change it again. The stretching isn't that bad (IMO), so I leaved it at that.

I rather like it, and the fact you made it from scratch is worthy of my respect.
Maybe for the body you could make the shoulder pads and armor sleeker and slim down the body, and your character will be praiseworthy.

Stop signs (at least in the U.S.) have eight sides.

@mswf:
1. no problem, i just couldnt find anything but this
2. Nice texture

IMO it would look even better if you would apply one texturing style to the whole texture. You used one style(scratchy-one) on the most of the texture, but the color and the upper helmet use another, not as scratchy style. Maybe try to de-define the edges of the color a bit more, too.
i see great potencial, especially if i look at my a bit older textures compared to your one...
