Possible Grappling Hook workarounds?

Maveritchell came out with a very good grappling hook workaround, but since he hasn't released it yet, I've been thinking of other possibilities.
We all recognize
this?
I'm thinking, would it be possible to create an effect that resembles such a cable launching from a unit's jetpack, going up, when the jetpack is activated? And then, would it be possible to have the jetpack only go up and down, via some odf coding?
A second possibility: take that cable weapon from the snowspeeder. I remember a while back someone said you can't give it to units. So why not to vehicles? Is a "grapple car" possible?

Would probably look very unconvincing.

The thing you have a picture of is a cable car (moves along set path), and the cable harpoon only latches onto AT-ATs.
Look, it's pretty much impossible to do. Plenty of people have tried. Mav's done it through lua scripting, and lots of it I imagine, rather than weapon odfs. It isn't possible through odfs.

You can throw something, then teleport to it like UT's translocators (or whatever they were called).

How would I go about doing that? I have a very limited understanding of LUA functions, but I thought that the game only detected the firing of despensibles, not grenades. Unless you're saying to make a grenade into a despensible with long range....Hmm, a "teleport nade".
And what's a UT?

What Mav did was dispense something, then teleport to it when he hit it with a certain weapon.

UT is Unreal tournament
the traslocator shots a disc, when you klick secondary fire (?) you are beamed to the current place of the disc

Yep, a translocator is sortof a throwable teleporter. You throw it out somewhere, press secondary fire and you're teleported to wherever it landed.
