I'm pretty sure the calendar just ends there. People just make a big deal about it. Who knows if it actually means anything. I mean, it could be because the Mayans got tired of making calendars 1000s of years in advance, and 2012 could just be where they stopped. Who knows, right?Dohnutt wrote:Was there even a prediction? Re: 2012....REAL OR NOT?
On the calendar it said December 21, 2012: World ends.
Back on topic. It just isn't going to happen. I don't think this movie will be very successful.

Okay, the gregorian calendar (the modern calendar), which is far more accurate than the mayan calendar, ends on December 31st, 2009.darthtyren wrote:On the calendar it said December 21, 2012: World ends.

sarcasm can be quite humorous when used appropriately.darthtyren wrote:I'm sorry, but that is not very funny.
*cough* Just my opinion, I'm not trying to interfere with staff's jobs or anything, but I think this should be either locked or moved, since we are more talking about the "event" than the movie and all this is going to accomplish is one big flame war.

Well, there isn't much to talk about, it's just another disaster movie (get it?) about the end of the world...

Re: 2012....REAL OR NOT?
It does actually mean something to the Mayans when the calendar ends, just not what everyone thinks. The Mayan Calendar does simply end on that date. According to the Mayans, everytime the calendar starts over, a new era begins. It just so happens that the last time this happened, the Mayans simply disappeared. People associate this with the end of civilization and doomsday. And now the calendar is about to reset again. But just because a calendar ends does not mean that the world will end. What happens on December 31st of our regular calendars? NOTHING. But we as humans predict that a new year will begin the next day. This is what the Mayans mean by a new era. Not doomsday. Not the end of life as we know it. Just a new beginning.Hebes24 wrote:I'm pretty sure the calendar just ends there. People just make a big deal about it. Who knows if it actually means anything. So no, I don't think that 2012 is going to be real.
