I tried opening some mod tools but they tell me insert disk 1, I'm using the steam SWBF2 is it possible to mod with this? Please help :/

I don't think it's likely you'll be able to mod on the steam version. The mod tools were made with the hard copy in mind, and Steam was still relatively new when SWBF2 came out. There might be something you can do, but I wouldn't know.

Incorrect: The steam version seems to have the 1.2 patch already applied. Mods can be done with it.

Yea, but when I try and open the mod tools it says please insert disk 1

The BF2_modtools.exe is the debug executable, you don't need to worry about that at this time, the first thing you should do is read and follow the:
Getting Started.doc
located in:
C:\BF2_ModTools\documentation

When you are ready to use the BF2_modtools.exe have a look at question #4 in the The FAQ / Everything You Need Thread Version 2.0

There is no official 1.2 patch, only 1.1

Oh, I must have confused it with BF1, which has a 1.2 patch
