RIP Pandemic!
I hate having to keep telling people this but Battlefront III is already out, BFIII is Elite Squadron.
Uh technically no it isn't, they just took the concept art and everything we pretty much saw in that alpha video and put it in their game.
You realize that the Elite Squadron was developed right alongside Free Radical's SWBF3, right? When the next-gen version got dumped it just got retitled.

Hey, does this mean we can buy out the Zero Engine now? :P
Everybody donate to guru now!

That would be sweet, however unlikely if we got our hands on the ZE...

If that'd be possible, that'd be more than great. I'm sure some people who'd want to help trying to improve it for SWBFII. Would that even be possible, if we'd have complete acces to SWBFII's source files? I mean, if it would be, a super-duper-awesommnnes 1.4 patch could be made

Theoratically speaking of course.

Though it sure is a shame that Pandemic studios is largely disbanded. I completely agree that most of their games are pretty buggy (and have a lot of unfinished strings in them), but I just can't ignore the fact that I like SWBFII so much in my opinion.

I'm a little sceptical about the statement EA gave though:

What's skeptical about it? He probably means they might come out with some more Destroy All Humans or Mercenaries.

Well, maybe I used the wrong word and smiley combination. It was more of a  at this picture

You know, the thing EA is infamous about (I don't completely share that opinion, but I agree with it for a bit)

Well here were my thoughts -- Zero Engine is effectively a dead duck. The last game to use ZE was LOTR: Conquest. Next to modern shooter engines, ZE is very outdated and EA already has far better shooter engines at its disposal. Pandemic's last game in development, The Saboteur, is coming out on Dec 8, and that game uses the Odin Engine.

Now let me quote the EA exec in his memo:
"I want to make it clear that the Pandemic brand and franchises will live on," writes EA SVP Nick Earl in the internal memo. "In the months ahead, we will announce plans for new games based on Pandemic franchises."
If EA has any intention to pursue any sequels in any of Pandemic's franchises, it will be with the Odin engine or one of EA's own shooter engines.

What this all amounts to is that ZE doesn't have a lot left going for it. It's no good to EA. This opens a window of opportunity for appealing to EA to open the source or even sell it outright.

The idea is rather ambitious but it is certainly somewhat feasible.

 Oh, the implications........

But how would we go about doing such? I mean, why not? Even if we do fall flat on our faces, it's worth a shot...

We can't. I was only joking. Pandemic was owned by EA, which means EA owns all of the technology.

Yeah I saw that too. Looks fun. Too bad it's too little too late for Pandemic as far as EA was concerned.

Let's see, since Free Radical gave up BF3 and Pandemic can't take it back, who was going to work on it again?

Free Radical didn't give up BFIII, Lucasarts pulled it from them when they went into administration.

In any case, Pandemic made it clear they weren't working of BFIII anyways.
