I really wish they didn't show that footage if they were going to take away the ability to fly from ground to space. It's teasing.
Still great to have seen it at all though! Who was expecting anything like this?
Someone start a petition to get that feature back in the game

No, really. Someone get it started
I heard a rumour from the LA forums that Pandemic is taking the game back. I don't know who would be best finishing this game other than free radical. I know everyone has said this about every star wars game, but this looks like the best- I hope very little will change.

I hope we'll get some information...features...anything from LA soon!

INTERNAL alpha test video. That wasn't a trailer, it was a leaked video. It wasn't meant for public consumption. Unless it's some sort of bizarre viral campaign, but failing companies don't do that.

There are going to be all sorts of rumors now that we've seen actual footage. Don't take anything too seriously.

True. I know it was alpha footage, and hopefully the full product is similar. I know it was leaked, but it just feels strange seeing a feature like that and knowing they won't use it. Who knows? Maybe they will. We haven't heard ANY official information. As far as we know, the guy who said they won't incorperate it may be wrong too. Time will tell.
I guess some of us are jumping the gun

I have to disagree. It may have been a blitz to boost confidence for FR investors when they needed it most.
I know Tean has a more intricate understanding of this, Rebellion or whoever it will be now lacks the things like taking off from space ships (presumably for legal reasons), wouldn't that same concept apply for other aspects of the game?
And honestly, this is THE SW shooter i've been waiting for. No game has ever lived up to the movies but this may be it. Let's hope the new devs don't butcher the gameplay.

You have to disagree? Okay, whatever, but you'll be wrong as far as what we know stands. Because the original source posted that it was an internal alpha video. This is a "hey guys we're doing good here are some clips of our project we've thrown together so far." Internal /= investors. They'd make a polished trailer for that.
Could it be something else? Maybe, but that's in contrast to what we actually know right now.

Best idea I've ever heard. If only it were that simple...
Seconded. Rename them to Lucasarts UK.

Oh god.... I'm really wanting this to happen actually, NOW that you guys mention it. My god, I think my heart just stopped from these genius ideas.

The timing is not coincidential. Obviously, we don't know if any corp bosses or investors were there at the time but i would highly doubt if they were not aware of this footage at this point. I really think it may have been a last ditch ploy to try to keep people on board.
Now according to Wikipedia
Free Radical Design announced that they lost the rights to develop Star Wars: Battlefront III in October, prior to them going into administration.
Quoting from the cited source
The independent studio had a publishing deal with LucasArts on the unannounced Star Wars Battlefront III, a deal that fell through in October after about two years of development, the source said. "[Free Radical] was relying on Lucas for further contracts which had been promised in some sort of exclusivity deal. Obviously that all went down the pan."
So even if FR makes it through, they're not developing it, period. By the sound of the article, the loss of the SWBF3 deal was actually one of the factors that led to their downfall.
About 20 staff members were offered positions, possibly with Ellis' new venture, Pumpkin Beach, although this is yet to be confirmed. The rest of the employees were told in a separate room that they would be laid off.
This developing team core that we keep hearing about that is being kept onboard is actually a seperate business altogether -- Pumpkin Beach (rumor). So the deal is pretty much set. Let's just pray to dear god that someone buys out FR and retains the rights and material.

So wait, is BF3 dead or not? And who's the developer? And why wouldn't LucasArts want a BF3? I mean, that was one of their best-selling games!

You just asked that question.
Is BF3 dead? Well if FR gets liquidated, all of the assets, the engine, etc will be gone. All that would be left is the title to the game (which belongs to LA). So it would depend on FR being bought out or the development stuff somehow being transferred to someone else. The problem is, LA already pulled the plug on the contract (dunno why), so now FR has this 80% finished awesome game without the legal rights to publish it, and transferring the data won't work either because whoever would take possession of the material still doesn't have the legal right to publish it. And like I said, if FR is liquidated, they'll lose all the data.

And then everything we saw about BF3 will be dead. I would just :faint:if that happened.
Please, let BF3 be released!

I wonder, is there any news of it on LucasArts or StarWars.com?

If the game itself hasn't been announced yet, you won't find information from lucasarts or starwars.com. The video was a "leak" meaning it wasn't supposed to be aired.

Remember that much of this is from separate sources "close" to different reporting agencies. While one says that BF3 was handed off in October, another says that the the video was from an Alpha meeting inside Free Radical in November. One said that the game was in shambles while another touts the flushed out multiplayer the game had. We can guess, but we shouldn't take anything said for truth.

well i think we should sign the petition. And witht he point about la buying out fr i thought of that too it would solve all our problems or even rebellion buying fr it would stop the trouble. And stupid la have removed all trailers on utube. some1 upload it again i fogot to download the vid to realplayer or if you can give me another link?
if la cancel this game then they should cancel all star wars games. and at least post around the world what is happening because every on knows about it now. La could at least give hard core fans like us a sample and see what we think about it but that would cause danger around the world. So at the moment all we can do is hope and pray that swbf3 does come out.

Since I have to do the "me too" thing..
Well, losing the apparently seemless ground to space transition is a disappointment, but I don't consider it a huge loss. I'd be happy if both theaters were able to be updated dynamically, so the battle would progress no matter where you were. However, that could get tricky, so I obviously would be hoping for a simple form of this. It'd be enough to keep up with active troop positions, CP status (if they still exist), etc. Anyway, I don't code this stuff, so don't look too deeply into that idea.
A funny thing I noticed was that the Venators still have the black brim trenches.

The current state of Free Radical at the moment as we know is they laid off 150 employees and kept a core of like 40 to keep the company a float a bit more.
I don't think Free Radical would be liquidated, that'd be terrible. I think, and from an interview that I posted from IGN, the exemployee said that they were getting good offers/interest in purchasing Free Radical. Like I said before LA should buy Free Radical for many reasons.
At the moment for SWBFIII state I'd go with Limbo. Not totally dead, but not going to be in the market any time soon. I'm pretty sure LA won't let all that work go to waste.
Also, you (anyone/everyone) should be interested in Time Splinters 4 and the series. It's a well though out and made game. I haven't played the first, but the second was a blast, and I enjoyed the 3rd. But if we want to talk about the TS franchise let's do that in a separate thread.
At this point all we can do is just talk about what's in the leaked video and imagine what else they made and wait for either more leaked works or an official announcement from LA.
I'll post back with why Free Radical would be doing this.
