Wow this almost looks too good to be true. Definitely looks like a huge improvement in terms of visuals, at the very least.

Kotaku pointed this out, but did anyone notice ~04:50 an EMPEROR Palpatine saying "Stick to the plan Kenobi!" Some sort of alternate story? Cool!

Maybe. It's more likely that they only have one storyline going on. I just don't see it being feasible to build an action shooter made for multiplayer that not only has a deep storyline, but has
multiple deep storylines. My tin-foil-hat-man guess? The storyline follows some illegitimate child of Obi-Wan's. It certainly looks like there's a story about a new Jedi in there.

True. I was very confused on the two jedis dueling. They both looked the same and like Kenobi.

Could it be a clone?

Eh, they didn't look so alike at 4:19.

Yeah it was a clone clad in armor with a vibrosword and a Jedi that I probably don't know about (probably Kenobi, but I don't know.). They didn't look alike to me -- no offense, but you gotta get your eyes checked or something.
This looks amazing. Atmospheric to space flight? Hey, doesn't that eliminate the need for separate maps dealing with the space version of a ground map that we've all known about in BF2? And, if they don't can the release on PC, I hope modding will be MUCH easier.... hopefully they'll have some kind of mod tool incorporated that you can add units to the game without screwing up coding or perhaps even vehicles or something? And perhaps maybe easy era adding as well as models and stuff. And if I was not decieved, there's lots of new physics in this one, eh? Grenade/Thermal Det made 3 enemies fly out from behind rocks or something and they acted like ragdolls upon impact. In-fact, there were some physics interacting with the environment, so.... wow. I just cannot ... it has everything I would ever want in a Battlefront game. I mean, obviously there would be room for improvement such as modding and stuff, but my god.... I am completely stunned by the video overall. Let's just hope it continues its awesome trend and comes to PC and has easy modding tools!!! Then we'll have something to do for a long time after BF3 is released, am I correct? XD

More news -- this time they talk about Free Radical and what didn't make the cut. Yeah, the tech to be able to take off from the ground and go out all the way into space? Gone.

I don't think I'll be buying it now unless it meets the expectations of the cutscenes. And I wasn't very impressed with Renegade Squadron

Yeah, I hope that rebellion doesn't [Diet Dr. Pepper] it up like they did to renegade squadron. RS downright SUCKED. They better not put in the "create your own unit" thing, and then no ground to space? What?
Off-topic: Lol, empy's old Avy w/o the animations or words is at that link.

EDIT: Nvm. Technically, you can still go from ground to space, but it'll be like 2 maps in one, I guess.

Oh well.... that sucks. But as long as it includes somewhat of what we want, I think it'd be cool, right?
I can certainly say that if it does, I'll move my projects from BF2 to BF3 in a hearbeat if/when it does ever release. I would've liked it they had kept what Free Radical has been doing to it and just build on top of it -- seriously, Free Radical had been onto something and if Rebellion screws that up by getting rid of the 'tech' of Atmpospheric to Space flight, then I will be certainly sad.
Now that they mention it, a cutscene transitioning won't be too bad, but it won't be too great either. I would've preferred if they had just kept Ground and Space one map so we wouldn't have to load between the two during whatever gamemodes we have or something. And as I said, if they do release on PC, the modding had better be much easier. :p

after looking at this for the 10th time i have noticed that you can fly out of the planets surface into space. yes more rooms when the jsf (jedi satr fighter) lands on the ship the corridors are like those from republic commando so its nice to see some other game tie ins.
with the free radicle and rebellion thing it is true that rebellion have now got the game and free radicl have gone bust (which is a shame to see how the credit crunch is affeting game companys too

) and i think im saying this on behalf of people who love the game so far from the trailer that if rebellion muck up this game then they have to close down it is simple as that really. so lets hope they make a good job and leave the game as it is and use the plan ideas from free radicle. i have 1 question? who will be clased as the makers of the game in the instruction manuel? free radicle, rebellion or free radicle and rebellion?

Well, they both will, but which company stayed through the entire creation of the game? Lucasarts. So if they only were to credit one company, it'd most likely be lucasarts. But chances are, they'll credit all three.

I think it's a good thing that space-ground is separate. Gameplay-wise, I don't see this being a huge deal (just a cutscene? whoop-de-do, it's still the same). It might even be better, when you consider what it would be like to have constant interaction from heavy space weapons with infantry (think snowspeeders on Hoth are annoying? Yeah, that, x10).
It's also probably less of a drain on system resources, and for a game like this to be successful, it needs to be mass-marketable and accessible. Having a visually enhanced (which it obviously is) large-environment (larger than SWBF2, it appears), high-unit-count (which as a Battlefront game, it needs) game work well on anything more than the most top-of-the-line systems needs to be a priority?
If this is a gamebreaker for you - not having it - I can assure you, it would be a gamebreaker for many, many more people to have a game that requires too much.
Just to reiterate (because the logic of having that all in is baffling - it was when I saw the trailer and still is, although now I can breathe a sigh of relief) - just think of playing an online game, with more than 30 players, with all the AI needed to populate a ground and space battle at the same time, and with high-res environments, easily four times the size of a standard SWBF map (this is inferring, of course, but look at the sizes of some of what we see in the video, and this of course counts the ground and space as one map combined). Does that sound as ridiculous to you as it does to me?

Sith Lord Obi-Wan is awesome. I was blown away by the Battlefront III footage yesterday, but now I'm coming to terms with the fact that the final game will look almost completely different, what with the new development team and all. Seamless land to space has already gone... something which I think would have been great fun, provided there are enough people playing during the game. I'd expect 64 players on a map that size, although IGN's suggestion of 32 player online like its prequels is probably more accurate.
And... Maveritchell just posted. It's a good point about bombarding ground troops from space, but that could easily be solved: just don't let weapons penetrate the atmosphere. Of course, it is true that I'd rather have more troops and larger, more detailed levels than seamless land and space battles. Massive open areas never seem to work that well with a lack of soldiers on the battlefield.

First picture of Sith Obi-Wan reminds me of someone from POTC, but I can't put my finger on it
