Crosswalk on XSI Foundations? [Solved]

How would I go about installing Crosswalk on any trial versions of XSI Foundations? Google doesn't seem to be helping me here at all. I want to import a .dae file from SketchUp, but be able to use the Pandemic addon to export to mesh. I can't use the XSI Modtool + Rep's Meshex, because MeshEx just spits out my .msh without any points or triangles, probably because the model has multiple textures (21 to be precise, and most are at least 256x256 - I'm guessing that's not ideal for collapsing into one UV map). I've tried tinkering with the Plugin Manager and Addon-->Install from the File tab but I don't really know what file I'm looking for. I thought maybe it was one of the .dlls in the Softimage/Crosswalk2.0/Plugins/XSI directory, but one doesn't work and the other causes an unspecified error or something.

Honestly, I just need any way to convert a .dae with multiple textures into a .msh.

Any help would be appreciated. :D

Try going through blender. It can import .dae and export .obj which can be imported into xsi foundations.

Crosswalk is a standalone installer that you download from autodesk, you just run the installer and it'll enable crosswalk on all installed autodesk products on your PC.

@MsHwIz: That method works well, but when I import the .obj into XSI, the textures get all stretched out.

@minilogoguy18: Crosswalk doesn't show up on the file menu of either version of XSI Foundations I have installed. Does it show up somewhere else? Either way, I've uninstalled Crosswalk and I am installing version 5.0 (for some weird reason I had 2.0 installed). However, the installer is only letting me integrate it into Softimage Mod Tool, not Foundations.

What format are you crosswalking to and what program are you coming from.
If you can get it to .xsi format foudations can handle that just fine. That is how I get stuff from modtools 7.5 to foundations 5.11

I have two versions of Foundations installed right now. 4.2 and 5.11.

4.2 doesn't let me import .xsi or .dae files, which is why I'm trying to get crosswalk to work. 5.11 lets me import .dae and .xsi files from Collada 1.4.0 and dotXSI 5.0, but all I get are unspecified errors.

Which tutorial are you using? Mine or Ace's? Either way, if you've looked through mine and made sure you did all the pre export stuff, and if you're still getting errors when importing to foundations, try installing modtool 7.5 and importing the .dae and exporting as .xsi and see if it works.

Edit: Number of textures shouldn't matter, as my dmi model has numerous textures but still shows up fine ingame.

Well first of all, I can't really import to Foundations because the normal exporters don't work, and Crosswalk refuses to integrate into Foundations. Or at least there isn't a "Crosswalk" item under the menu like there is in Modtool.

I did all the pre-export stuff with Modtool 7.5. When I export to xsi, I convert with MeshEx but when it finishes, the .msh file doesn't have any points or triangles. I kinda mentioned that in the first post though.

Even if it's not the number of textures, MeshEx won't convert my model (it DID convert a single-textured version though). So it seems I have to use the Pandemic addon. My choices here are to follow MsHwIz's suggestion of using Blender to convert to .obj but find out how to keep the textures from messing up, or to find out how to get Crosswalk working.

When you exported the model from xsi with crosswalk, did you make sure to middle click the dummyroot under which the polymesh is located? or did you just have the polymesh selected? Did you make sure to check "selection only", "convert meshes to triangles", and "export xsi normals"? If the answer is no to any of those, it causes the problem you're mentioning. As for the texture projection, xsi exports the model with one texture projection.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I've done all of this, I've done all of this many times before. I've made other, simpler models countless times with your tutorial already. I even double-checked and did all of this stuff again, and MeshEx crashed trying to convert my model.
Commander_Fett wrote:As for the texture projection, xsi exports the model with one texture projection.
Then whatever, that's not the problem. I guess I fail to understand what a texture "projection" is. But either way, MeshEx crashes with my model.

Let's not go back and double-check stuff, let's make progress. I really need help with:
A) Preserving textures when exporting an .obj from Blender into Foundations (what settings do I use?)
B) Getting Crosswalk to integrate for Foundations. (is everything installed correctly?)
C) Some radical new suggestion that I haven't thought of that doesn't involve double-checking or something clearly documented on the forums already.

Thanks.

Crosswalk(any version) will not integrate with any version of XSI below 6 since it wasn't developed until then and since the Foundation trials are 5.11 and below they fall in the non-compatible category.

Hurray, at least I know now.

And I just successfully imported the model into Foundations by using Blender to export as obj, without the textures screwing up. I think what I did this time was I unchecked "UV Wrapping" option in Foundations' import menu. I guess this is solved.

Thanks everyone.
