How Do You Select Maps? [Solved]

When playing in SP and MP, how do you typically select which missions to play? Do you only select and play one mission at a time? Do you select multiple maps, check the era you want to play, then check a few game modes? Do you select only one map at a time, picking out a single game mode but multiple eras?

The code behind the era and game mode checkboxes is a real pain to deal with. I've been thinking of rewriting that whole section as well as how maps say which missions they have (it would still support the old format). What do you think about replacing the era and game mode checkboxes with a list of all the valid missions for the selected maps? The list would be sortable by era, game mode, or map so you would still be able to pick out all missions of a certain type. Visually, the Mode and Era sections would be replaced with a single section: Missions

Would you like that change or would you prefer the existing map selection setup?

As a side effect, it might make it easier to toggle off missions instead of removing those maps from the addon folder. No promises on this.

99.99% of the time I select one mission at a time, for two reasons.

1: I'm modding. I only need to go and test that new texture or new weapon, so I only need one mission to do this.

2: I only play mods in singleplayer. Mods become unstable when you have a playlist of multiple missions. So to reduce the chances of crashes, I select one at a time.

The checkboxes seem a pain at times(especially with multiple era mods), so maybe just a list would be better. So I vote for a list.

A different way of sorting like that would be an improvement, IMO. Generally, I just default to conquest, so when playing, I just check conquest, pick a map, add mission, pick another map, change eras, add mission, pick another map, change eras, add mission. So really, condensing the list boxes to just "Missions" would be the same amount of steps, but even more streamlined if I ever wanted to pick a different game mode than just conquest.

Unless I am testing a map/mod, or I am testing all of the eras and/or modes of that map/mod, I make a playlist of maps with whichever missions I wish to play.

Anyway, I am all up for the idea of purging the checkboxes. :maulsaber: Also, toggling missions/maps to be loaded into the game would be GREAT! Also also, would it be possible to have each map's 3-character code listed somewhere in-game, maybe in the toggling list?

Yes, this. I totally agree, except I play mods in multiplayer too, but only if I'm testing one of my own with a friend or twelve, or if I'm playing a large mod (such as DT2) with a friend or 5

That, and I like to have a short break from homework often, which means, one map at a time.

would listing every mission make the list really long?

I think the normal way of selecting is fine, except the eras run out of space in their little window.

i usually select 1 at a time for mod testing, but sometimes a playlist for LAN mp.

I think he means the middle list would display the missions for the map that you have selected.

i normally pick one map, then choose the modes and then eras. i think on most maps a missionlist would be more comfortable because you dont have to go back to disable an era and aneable another one when you want to play certain modes in different eras but the current setup is alright in my opinion.

Not if you made it scroll down...

I'm up for boxes with scroll bars. Maybe even a "Random Mission" picker...where it picks a random mission for you to play...

I usually select all the maps, but when you have multiple big mods or new eras (there's cw, gcw, kotor, +123 cw, +123 gcw) i can select the dark times era too, but if i have the battlefront project, pax empiricae, UBTCW ... I can't select them, i have to select 1 map by 1 map, same for game modes. I hope you understand what i mean. A scroll bar for game modes and eras would be nice when you are clicking on "Select all maps". Good luck for the patch  .

Oh. I get it. the map list on the left would stay the same, but the mssion and era lists would be combined into an eramission list.

Yeah, that would probably be a better way to select missions. easier to select different eras for different maps.

The mission list sounds like a good idea, it would probably make the interface alot cleaner and more simplified. But if its going to be a pain for you to do, then i can live with the check box's. P.S. Zerted, Thanks for all your hard work and for still caring about this game.

I actually choose multiple maps, but that's only because I like to think up plotlines in my head. For example, I'll have a space battle and then a boarding scene in Tantive IV. From there the ship boards at Polis Masa where the Republic is forced to retreat to the nearby system of...you get the point. But that is really just my dorky self. The idea of just one mission at a time option sounds appealing too.

 TheDuke and I used to do that a lot when we did co-op on the PS2.
