Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
The title says it all. How do I make the AWARD Sniper Rifle capable of landing headshots like the regular sniper rifle? Is it possible?

I am sure they are already capable. The award snipers just aren't reliable...

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
No. It is impossible to get a headshot with the default award one. I know because I've tried. I've shot the AI with it in the head, and it didn't do anything.
Is it the beam-type projectile?

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
The sniper rifle you get after you headshot 6 opponents? The AWARD Sniper Rifle? You can't get headshots with it. I've tried, as explained above. I know you can get headshots with beam stuff. I just tested that out myself. I just want to know what to change in the weapon ODF to allow one to make headshots with the AWARD Sniper Rifle.

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
as i said above you can do headshots with the award sniper rifle. maybe its the unit types you are shooting at. are they modded, driodekas, in tanks, or something?JA394 wrote:The sniper rifle you get after you headshot 6 opponents? Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
I can put in my word that it is possible to land headshots with the AWARD Rifle, it just is a little trick(ier) than normal. I find aiming ever so slightly above where I want it to hit helps.

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
I have to aim lower, IE the legs, in order to guarantee a hit. I'm looking to end it.
I've got an idea of how, and I'll go try it now.

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
Headshots on units are hardcoded into the game. They always do 3x normal damage. This applies to all weapons that have an ordance, since the headshot itself does not depend on the weapon used - as long as you've got some type of ordance colliding with a head, you've got a headshot. The only possible exception to this might be lightsabers, but even then I'm not so sure.

Nevertheless, I concur that there is at least something wrong with the AWARD sniper rifle in regards to headshots. Nearly impossible if not impossible in singleplayer, so it would be a one-in-a-hundred occurance in multiplayer, where things are always a fraction of a second behind reality.

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
Thank you, Jaspo.
I've looked over the code for the two sniper rifles side-by-side for the past few days, editing this and that, and nothing so far has made a difference. Whatever it is is a tricky one.
I've got to admit, the AWARD Sniper Rifle, despite the complaints I hear about it, is worth the time and energy put into it. It does wonders.
Another thing, though;
Does that seem odd to anyone else? Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that with a better weapon, especially a sniper rifle, stuff like range would increase, not decrease.
On a side not, I've fired all kinds of weapons before, a sniper rifle being one of them. Let me tell you, that thing is a hassle to aim, but the bullet goes where you aim it.

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
All of the award weapons have their drawbacks, but it's all depends on how you look at it. Perhaps the decreased zoom range and one-mode zoom of beam rifle are there to counter its increased in fire power? Or you could say that the one-mode zoom makes it faster to aim since you no longer have to choose from two zoom modes. Plus, the new zoom range is still reasonably good despite being significantly more but a bit less than the original ZoomMin and ZoomMax, respectively. It's better than the average at least. The firing ranges remained the same, by the way.JA394 wrote:Does that seem odd to anyone else? The beam rifle should already have enough damage strength to kill most units instantly. What's the point of aiming at a small target, the head, when the end result would be the same at any other part? Anyway, you probably want to play around with the LifeSpan value in the ordnance's ODF.
If you are trying to compare SWBF2 to the real world, then don't. SWBF2 doesn't have real physics. On Earth a laser beam would go where you aim it. Metal projectiles with no means of self-propulsion don't always since they have wind patterns, gravity, and other factors to consider.JA394 wrote:On a side not, I've fired all kinds of weapons before, a sniper rifle being one of them. Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
Lifespan? Ok. I'll go play with that.
And I wasn't comparing BF2 to RL. I know better than that. Rambo would get gunned down in seconds here on Earth.
The point of hitting the head is to up my Headshot count.
Anyway, I'll edit this post after I play with Lifespan.
Thanks, AQT.
What does that stand for, by the way?
EDIT: Ok, I changed Lifespan from .15 to .30. It didn't really seem to do anything that I could see. Still couldn't get mah headshots while zoomed...
What I ended up doing was slapping a regular reticule on it, like a regular rifle, and use that. While not very effective for sniping like that, it does allow me to get some headshots without wasting too much ammo.
So, what shall I do now in my quest to get headshots?

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
lifespan just changes how long the beam stays. it also weakens the damage per second by spreading the damage over time.

So, I should probably keep it in that general area?

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
depends on how long you want the beam to last. i made a 5 second long beam and i died while firing it and it continued to fire even after i died.JA394 wrote:So, I should probably keep it in that general area?

Re: Headshot with AWARD Sniper Rifle
Hmm... Sounds more like a beam cannon than a rifle...
I'll stick with .30. It works like a charm as a rifle.
Hmm... now there's an idea... an automatic beam rifle...
Anyone have any weapon ideas that can be made by ODF editing? I'm always looking for some.
