I've been discussing the whole issue about new people posting whatever so they can gain a rank. While that's fun to do, it's getting out of hand. Some new people are posting random things, criticism, spam, etc. just for the purpose of increasing their rank. That's not good...

I have a suggestion: Why not have custom user titles instead of ranks?

You see what I mean? It could help out a little bit to get rid of those spammers who just want to increase their rank.

I think, if it gets to the extreme, get rid of the ranks. But I just don't like this "customizable idea" :p

I agree, mostly.
I think that instead of the post system, "promotions" are handed out by gametoast staff and moderators for acheivements, and custom ranks are allowed for people who have major acheivements, have reached the promotion limit, or directly aid the site somehow (such as donating cash).

I agree. If you want to write something witty and personal you always have the "Location" part of your PostNuke profile. From what I can remember, I think custom ranks are assigned via the "admin" section of PNphpBB2, obviously this is not something that everyone should be able to change even a very small parts of.

As long as a normal member of GT does not fake his or her identity as a Jedi Staff/Admin/Jawa Admin/Sith Staff (why not?), then I think everything should be fine.

Or a severe warning. In fact, does any GT Moderator have the power to activate or deactivate a person's ranking system if he or she receives a warning? That way, you would be spliting those who are currently "innocent" from those who have gotten in some sort of "trouble". Now unless a person proofs/shows that he or she has changed and posted constructively, then maybe a moderator could re-activate the ability for that person to use Custom ranks.

That's my idea. Who else would like to share their thoughts?

Well if you can lock it, please lock it. This isn't worth dicussing anymore since it's not possible. Sigh, there needs to be a new version of the PNphpBB2 or whatever the heck you call it...such a weird name...

Those with custom ranks like "yoda's shoe cleaner", "guru's battle advisor" and "GT elders" for example do deserve their titles. Same goes for mods and admins.
