I hope (and kind-off assume) not, because this would rule out several people immediately. I think we've already sort-off agreed that whether or not the vehicle is ingame ready or not wouldn't matter for this contest.

Would it need to be textured and basically done for it to be shown?

So in light of the fact that this hasnt gotten anywhere yet and an agreement cant be reached onto how we chose, I decided to just get things going by stating what kind of contest I would like to see....
If I were to choose I'd have it this way:
(Thanks ANDEWEGET for the template)
Triangle limit: 4000
Texture: No
Theme: Metropolis (coruscant as an example)
Type: Vehicle
Start: August 1st
End: August 30th
Agree/ disagree, I just want to get things moving....

How do you theme a vehicle? O.o
I could get things like hover, ground, flying, ect, but what is a "Metropolis" vehicle, and how can it be defined as one without a texture?
Also, why is the tri limit so low? I mean, Hopefully these models don't HAVE to be Battlefront ready, otherwise any non-xsi user is in a bit of trouble, also, I don't have an option to merge tri's to create a lowpoly version of a highpoly model.
Also, texturing = nice challenge for new modelers and texturers, and with the texture resources topic it should be a breeze for making vehicle textures.

I think we could increase the Triangle(!)limit at least to 8000. If you want to have some details on it you might even need 10 to 16k triangles.
Well, if the Theme is Metropolis a podracer or some sort of mining/agricultural vehcile wouldnt fit. I wouldnt define the vehicletype, though. Maybe more like military or economical, transport, civilian or so-vehicle.
The time is not that good for me, but its okay.

Agreed, let's raise that triangle limit. 15K sounds good?

It does.

Now for the theme, everyone who wants to participate could just post the theme(s) he would like to have here and then we decide from there(make a poll if possible).

Haha, at least we're getting somewhere..
The triangle limit was low because I assumed that this was gonna be for BF, plus a bunch of OC would be possible if we stuck to something low tri... but if it suits better for a first contest 15 k should work...
And as for the 'theme' we should define what a theme should mean... I figured a theme would be where (or what planet), what its used for and affiliation...
So would this suit everyone better:
Triangle limit: 15k
Texture: No
Theme: Metropolis planet; civilian; transport;
Type: Vehicle (air/ land; not space)
Start: August 1st
End: August 30th
just as a first go

Why no texture? That ruins half of the fun!

I think we should concentrate on the modelling this time(maybe make textures optional?). Having to make textures might be a bit too timeconsuming=fewer participants. If this one works good we can have another one with textures.

What about us Sketchup users? Does the Tri limit only apply to XSI users?

XSI isnt the only 3d application out there...
Modeling in sketchup is new to me and I dont know how to count the polygon numbers unless you export it and open it in a different program...
Also, should the submitted work just be graded on the model itself, or lighting, background, etc?

Now you're just typing nonsense. First we're not having a texture, now we're grading on the lighting and background?
There's also people like me who don't have a way to render their models ya know.....

I'd love to do this, but not with the rediculous rules such as no texture or having to render it.

Textures could be optional, and I doubt we have to render it.
