XSI Mod Tool 4.2?

Ok, I have read some of those sticky tutorials that Teancum has, and i've notiecd that a lot of those are for different versions of XSI, is there another way of doing those things, I havent even done anything in XSI yet because I can't understand how to do anything. Do I need to buy the $600 copy of the non-modtool for those tutorials to be clear? For example, I tried the first tutorial on Teancums sticky, and I got to a step where you import the model into XSI, but it won't let me because, "You are trying to load a scene with an unsupported version. This sofware supports scenes from 108 to 420
Actual Scene version: 420
Please try to load version from: 421
Is it because I have Mod Tool 4.2? Do I need to get a different version of it? Please help.

That's exactly the 'problem'.
usually in programs, you cannot load stuffs from a newer version into an older version of the same software. it's exactly how it is with XSI. if you have sometihng saved (even if you just opened it and don't do anything and press Save) you cannot open it in a earlier version.
And the most important in this 'business' is not to DO the tutorials and being able to do exact copies of work, but to understand what you're doing and what you can use it for
so you can follow as many tutorials as you want, even though they don't work in your version or program
So keep on following the tutorials, and before you ask; No, you canNOT use XSI Mod Tools to export as .msh

Since I've heard the modtool doesnt even work correct with XSI 6 FULL, i'd say... no.

look, i told you guys already if you want an exporter for mod tools you have to get ahold of Avid/Softimage, pandemic or anyone else cant write an addon for the mod tools programs, if they could export to every file type out there then they would lose SO MUCH buisiness cause game companies would have to buy thier program to make games, thats the reason why the .xsi exporter on the program doesnt work.

pandemic was trying to get softimage to make one but they probably wont do it until the .msh format stops being used for commercial games so they dont lose any money.

well game and production companies buy the advanced versions of the program for around $3000 but if they released exporters for thier FREE version of the program game companies would no longer need to spend the money on the full version, they would lose money, ALOT of money.

they wouldn't "lose" money, they just wouldnt make it

its not smart to do, it wont happen, they dont allow people to make addons for the mod tools versions, if you have the full version though you can download the SDK and make addons, thats how pandemic did it, they made the .msh exporter.
