Hello everyone. Small update, since I've been very busy recently - swimming, homework, applications, away from home, and sickness!

I've added a background object to Central City. Here are some images showing it.

Updated the original post with new pictures as well. Still on my to-do list is fixing those dang ugly trash cans! I've been working on the next map and it might be ready for its own post in a week or so. Here's hoping school doesn't keep me too busy.

Previous edit: marginal improvement on trash bin
EDIT: Well whoop-de-doo! Look at you! The trash bin now has a super-cool new look:
Remember, kids, do your part for the planet!

Now with shooting-through action!

What do you think? I changed the design for a larger top so that it would provide better cover. Not rubbish anymore, eh?

Can I beta test this awesome looking map?

I don't see why not, but I'm not doing beta testing yet. I prefer to test the maps all at once, so I can have my feedback consolidated in one spot. Remind me when it's beta testing time!

In other news, I made about 4 more models for the next map. It makes me sad that nobody has tried to guess which location it is using my witty hint in the first post. (heh) If my amazing new year resolution of actually working on my maps at least every other day holds, I should have pictures for you all by the end of this week. I'm having trouble with the sky and upper scenery, as there is no sky / scenery in the original level! :runaway:

Let me guess...next map will be Prison Island?

You guessed it, my good sir! Here, have a map post as a prize.

--------------------------------
PRISON ISLAND: WHITE JUNGLE
In the White Jungle level, the player takes control of Shadow the Hedgehog as he blitzes through the lush jungle of Prison Island against the clock! I've attempted to create a battling environment similar to the platforms of that level with this map.

Here are some overview images:

Lastly, a picture of one of my favorite tactics:

Although the map takes place on an isolated platform, the battle weaves through tunnels into the tree and trenchlike surroundings. Gameplay feels a bit more open due to the vantage points, although cover is all around. Will you attack through the tunnels, or flank the enemy across the network of obstacles? With both Conquest and 2-flag CTF, Prison Island aims to provide a misty jungle arena for the player to show off his strategies.

What a fun map to make. It was a real toss-up between Green Forest and White Jungle, but in the end, the potential for White Jungle's neat platforms and torch look won me over. I'd say the map is at least 80% done. My big things to-do here are adding foliage and some more effects, and possible some more giant trees off in the distance. The sky and background, as I mentioned before, were a real challenge. Look at this screenshot from the original level to see what I mean:

Granted, that's an extreme example, as the player's view is often blocked by walls or focused ahead. But it does serve to show the trouble I had trying to make a decent environment to surround this platform!

So, any comments, questions, compliments!? Hopefully there are some people enjoying these updates! I know I am. And, per tradition, the hint about the next map!
I hope you don't harbor any dislike for my favorite Sonic level in the game!

Looks very nice! :D

Never played Sonic games much so I don't know how close you are to the original (and how close you want to be) but from the pics it looks as if the map could need a little more bit more cover, especially on some of the higher parts of the map. Those mushroom props look very nice, maybe you can place a few more of them if it doesn't contradict the reference.

Good suggestion. There aren't really that many mushrooms in the original level, but I like them enough to get away with what I have. I think I may have been channeling Mushroom Hill from Sonic and Knuckles a bit! I'm going to try adding some crates up near the "fort" command posts.

In other news, I've started work on the most important model for the next map, and boy, is it a whopper! It'll probably take me 2 or 3 days of work to get even this one part working well. Thankfully, I have a solid design sketched out for the map's layout.

--------------------------------------------------------
Back from the dead!

I've been super-busy for the past several months, but I never forget my baby projects. Work has sputtered back to life on Eggman's Base and Prison Island, and both are much improved (especially the former). However, I want to reveal the progress all-at-once, so for now, you'll have to be satisfied with a teaser of...

...the master plan.

WOW, I have never seen this in the Map/Mod Works in Progress section but this looks fantastic! I do enjoy Sonic but not as much as the next person on the list but who knows, maybe I will grow closer to Sonic and enjoy this mod!
