a way to change default unit skins??.... iis it possable?

i have a question...is there a way to change the skins of units throughout the game... like making republic troopers look like stormies??... i know that if i take the .lvl file from a map (for example Reven's Kashyyyk:Shores map) and paste it into ..../_LVL_PC/SIDE i can get the sharpshooter for the republic to look like Reven's BARC trooper...

but i'm looking for a way to basicaly skin EVERY republic unit... and i have a good idea for all the units... but i'm just stuck on HOW to get this task done any help or explenations would be quite helpfull

I don't think it is possible to to have a default reskin "throughout the game" this would need to be done on a map by map basis (only for custom maps). To reskin units for a map you need to modify the tga files. try using the import or add side option in BFBuilder Pro as well, you can then tinker about using different msh's for sides etc.... Saturn V has a good tutorial about reskinning on his website (click the sat labs link). hope that helps slightly or at the least points you in the right direction :)

what i ment was throughout the shipped maps... and any maps that dont use a custom rep.lvl, imp.lvl, cis.lvl, or all.lvl file

ya... import rep side, for ex., change a shipped units skin, clean and munge, then replace the rep.lvl in your gamedata/data/sides folder and waa-laa new skin...

make a backup of your shipped sides folder in case something goes wrong

It's actually easy, my mod coming out will replace the Imperials with Republic Clones from EP3 and the Alliance with more CIS

so on my compy it will be ERA: EP2 ERA: EP3

Will release that soon

If you want me to I can cook up a reskin for you dude... but if you use the skins you will be unable to play online...

as far as I know, its NOT possible to do it, because the .tga files WASNT munged among the files in the Side Folder - so its only possible in Costum Maps

besides, IF you changed the .lvl files, it WOULDNT 'recognize' the new textures, because they wasnt in the MSH folder, when the map was munged for the FINAL time - I know I'm repeating myself, but its so they get it :wink:

I thought it would, because the rouge clones mod works on the shipped maps.

so you just want my LVL mod or do you have specific ideas?

oh and Qdin.

Custom maps draw from custom LVL files which are created during a munge of the SIDE's assets as you prolly know.

The default SIDE assets were given to us in the mod tools, including the current skins... (otherwise the skins people have been doing must be HARD :P)

If you create a mod, and import ALL of the SIDE's assets and only change the tgas, then munge, it will create a SIDE lvl file which you can then overrite your game install's cooresponding .lvl file for that faction.

The shipped worlds ALL draw from the same LVL files which are the defaults, but when you create a custom map and tell it to draw from your own assets it overwrites or superceeds the installed defaults allowing for the cool stuff you have been seeing.

SO if you want, you can actually change what the defaults are... this would allow us to use -_-'s nuke cannon on shipped worlds if we wanted. Problem is if you do so the game knows the files are different sized and when you try and connect to a server it refuses your connection... unless they are using the same LVL overwrites.

Changing the default skins would act much the same way, and he can make all the clones look like IMPys if he wants, but then he looses his online playability... which he doesn't mind.

Right now my EP3 clones are overwriting my IMPys so I can't play 2nd era maps online :P

Blue Jedi Temple Storming EP3 clones instead of stormtrooper

Red Shock Trooper clone instead of shock stormy

Yellow/orange Commander Cody style clones instead of

BARC cammo clone scout instead of normal scout

and a republic commando instead of darktrooper

standard all white EP3 clone for Trooper

Commander Cody style (with sandtrooper back pack adn sholder thingy) for Anti-Armor

a Commander Neyo marked clone for a Pilot

BARC for Sniper

and a Galactic Marine (reskinned Snowtrooper) using Reven's Clone Commando wep layout for the special

It will be part of a 4 part LVL replacement, but I can express you JUST the IMP file before that as long as you don't send it to other folks.

I love the Idea OOM 9 and I sooooooo want to test but I have some suggestions :
You should use the blue clone or white clone to replace the basic stormie
the red shock trooper clone instaed of imp shock trooper
Majin Revan's Ep 3 Pilot with his permission instead of the imp pilot
The Barc Sniper guy instead of the imp sniper
the galactic marine guy instead of the dark trooper
and assorted clone commanders as heros
