Skin with Hex Edit ends in low quality

Dear Community,
I'm working on an era mod and need more skins for the same model (the models refer all to the same rep_inf_ep3trooper.tga file)
"OverrideTexture" doesn't work on the rep_inf_ep3trooper so I downloaded XVI32 and tried it by
changing the tga the MESH refers to via HEX.
I'm new at HEX-Editing so it could probably be my fault, but when I load the MESH-file in SWBF Viewer,
it looks like it should: New Skin, High Res, no discomforts...
But when I load the game and select the unit, the skin looks totally bad and LowRes.
Here is the picture of the mesh I changed the tga with XVI32:
And here is it in game, compared with the normal trooper without any editing:
Here's what I do in the HEX-editing program:
I search for the line where the refering tga-file stands and replace it with the new one, that has exactly the same characters as the previous one.
I hope for a quick reply,
