Problem with Zerted's screenie tut *Solved.....*

First of all, I'm very tired of no one answering my questions. I try to help people all the time, and what do I get? Didily [raw danger!]. I always have to leave the bugfixes to myself, leading to map delays, leading to angry mobs, leading to all out [raw danger!].
Anyway, here's my problem that no one will care to answer (I know no one will, it's like a natural order or something):
I tried to follow Zerted's tut (video links don't work, so I followed the script), but I don't understand where he got common.lvl from. If Load munging doesn't work, then how come it did after the second step in the tut? It says to enable load munging, which would be clicking the checkbox known as Load.
Well, I got past that after copying common.lvl to Load. So now I can't find "loadscreen" (with and without quotes) anywhere in common.lvl. I can't open it in notepad because it just freezes the program, and XVI32 requires you to find it manually, go to the first letter of it, and hit find (that is such [raw danger!]!). So now what? I'll have to create a req for it after this, but what do I put in it?
I swear the best things in modding are curses for me to figure out.
