Flash grenade?

Would it be possible to make a flash grenade like in Call of Duty in SWBF2? You know, a grenade that temporarly blinds anyone who looks at it? Also, could it affect the AI, so that you, in effect, turned "invisible"?

In short, no. I, and many others, have tried it. The best we can do, it seems, is to make a very bright flash detonation effect and a medium-sized screen shake, so that in effect any humans are paralyzed (unable to make sense out of their jumping screens). Could be -very- useful for MP, but unfortunately AI aren't affected. Their aim remains unaffected, the little snobs.

If you give it a little push also, you can knock over ai enough to give you a short advantage, but not S long as against humans perhaps

there is my attempt at it.

If i was making a flash nade i would make it so the players screen lights up commpletly white for arround 3 secconds, not sure what id do for the AI though, maybe just disable them from shooting for arround 2 seconds to make it look like they cant see you.

Yeah, but I have no idea how to do that..

We just can't do that, though. That's the problem. If it were that simple we would, but it's not.

We CAN, there was a freeze grenade some time ago made by Skyhammer I believe, but it wouldn't look right the AI would be literally frozen there nothing else it would be better to just knock down the AI instead. Also trying to think through this logically, would any of the factions we have in bf2 really be affected by a flash grenade besides the Rebels?

I was thinking of making an Earth map, but for Star Wars, yeah, only the Rebels would really be affected.

Most of the credit for freeze nade goes to mastersaitek and mav. And it has an unfortunate tendency to (a) work on everything (vehicles, turrets etc) and can freeze the game.
And fiodis is partly right - we can't just disable the AI from shooting and still have them move.
A workaround is to switch the team of the AI to a third / fourth team that won't attack anyone. Unfortunately you still run into the same stupid freezing errors as the freeze nade causes.
*Might* be possible to rig an orbital strike beacon to fire a choke type weapon that holds people in place while playing an anim, but i've never tried.

The Darktrooper's arc caster has a small push that keeps you from shooting for the few seconds that you're bent over, perhaps if the flash is quick, you could add a quick push, or rather, like Sky said, somehow rig an ordnance that chokes everyone while the effect is in place.

That's not a bad idea; the bending down from the push could even look pretty decent, as if the units were trying to shield their eyes.

Couldn't you write into the grenade ordinance a command to turn you invisible, but have it use up your stamina within a few seconds?

No. Very, very No.
You can't just "write in" whatever properties you want. Odfs have a very limited set of properties you can use.
