Softimage: Where do I begin?

Post by MidnightSpirit »

Okay so I have been reading through the Softimage Getting Started Documentations and I have no idea where to actually begin.
I would like to make my own Character Model but don't know how to use the tools.
When I go to learn about the tools i get completely overwhelmed and have no idea how to begin.
There was something that I thought could help me. When you start Softimage (7.5) a list of tutorials will come up.

The Red Outline represents the options I selected. I selected those so I may create a robot but when I do I get sent to design3.com Homepage. So I get nowhere.
I am basically trying to say that I am looking for a tutorial which guides me through the creation of a character or object using Softimage Mod Tool 7.5. I have searched and haven't found one.
Your help is much appreciated.

You can start HERE. Learning softimage mod tool just takes a ton of time, work and practice. You won't just be able to jump in and start making character models. :music:

Yes, watch all the tutorials(especially video tutorials, or tutorials with many pictures) you can find(in the link), and more importantly do what the people do in the videos, too. Its good to have some theoretical knowledge, but practice will always be the main factor.

I used the artists guide to softmage, it has good video tutorials although they don't teach all of the modeling tools. Its easy if you watch the video a few times. I would really want to start with a prop, start simple then build your way up to much better models.

Thanks for the link i have searched through the Softimage tutorials on it.
I didn't want to just "Jump in and start making character models." A tutorial was offered so i said why not take a look?
But my questions still remains relatively unanswered, where do I begin?
Basically is there a tutorial that any of you may know of which guides the user from the beginnings of making a model? (don't care of what or anything).
I can find texturing and many other uses in tutorials but no beginning of making a model? The documentation explains what things do but it is hard to follow with such overwhelming information that is scattered through many documents.
I am not complaining I am just asking, Where do I begin?
