I started compiling the beta into a 7z exe file this morning, and as of leaving for work this morning, the stats were:

Size on Disk: 4992mb (4.8gb)
Compression Ratio: 12%

I'm going to guess about a 20% ratio in the end, so my guess is the download will weigh in right at 1gb.

Now there's a few things you should know:
1-I included the 1.2 patch and revision 36 of Zerted/RepSharpShooter's 1.3 patch, so that added some weight.
2-There's still some sides and localizations I can trim the fat from for the final release.
3-I included the original core.lvl from the game in case folks forget to uninstall 1.9 first.

This new 'installer' won't be much of an installer at all. You just run the exe, point to the /Gamedata folder, and unzip. When the public release comes out I might do a true 'pretty' installer, but only if I feel froggy that day.

Anyways, I'm hoping the final weighs less than 975mb so it can fit on your average USB thumb drive.


So, staff and testers we've selected (even though you don't know who you are yet) expect an PM sometime tomorrow with a link. You will also get one today with some very specific instructions.

For anyone interested, the final filesize for the beta is 793mb. It's getting uploaded and sent to testers tomorrow.

Not much bigger than 1.9 and you certainly kept it under 1GB even with all the other things! So will the last release be about the same size?

It'll probably a bit bigger or smaller. I don't foresee much of a difference.

How fortuitous that this should come out now, I have a few days off work and I am willing and able to run a server from about 9 AM (depending on when I get up ) to @ 11 PM EDT. I may not be on all the time but I will try to keep it running. If any of the testers feel particular maps or modes in the list please PM me and let me know, can't put all the maps and modes in or they will only get played once during the entire time the server is up
But we can concentrate on ones that had the most online bugs previously.

Once the server is up I will give the details either here or via PM

The beta has been sent to testers, so we're moving along semi-on schedule. Maveritchell will be taking over as project lead, which is nice because I can take a smaller role and work on other projects. So everybody give it up to Mav for stepping up!

Thanks, guys! To say that I'm stepping up as "project lead" is a bit overstating it, I think. While I will be the one publishing/releasing/whatever the final version, all I'm really doing is making sure the last few bugs are killed or deciding what to finally cut if necessary. Teancum and others have done the vast majority of the work, what I am now is just like a little bit of final quality control.

Good to know,that the Conversion Pack is now in Mav`s good Hands.That guarantees a good publishing of it.

What a pity,i still hoped to the end, to to get a beta invitation,too but i dont got one.The Stuff decided that way.Thats ok for me.I can wait for the Final Release and so i can spend more time in beta testing Xavious 607 Map Pack again.

You all did a awesome job here and SWBF2 inclusive the Final Convo Pack Stuff will be on my Pc for a very very long time. :yodaful:

I am sorry Alex, it must stink...... i was kinda hoping i would be picked too, but i just didnt have anything to contribute, too bad i learned to mod so late......

There are hundreds of GT members and if everyone (or even a few more than they chose) would get a closed beta it would result in a big number and besides it would be a lot to PM everyone. Just be happy you'll have a chance to play the Final Version, I don't have a problem with it I didn't really help much with the Pack other than reporting a couple bugs and as much as I would like to play it I know I wouldn't have enough time to fully test it.
