I've pretty much taken the day off today. I didn't even really play BF either... just a few matches in Galactic Conquest... other than that, I've pretty much been relaxing all day. I've really been busting my Diet Dr. Pepper on this map since Wednesday, making it as good as I can possibly get it. So, I figured a little time off from all my hard work wouldn't really hurt...
But, so far, so good. I got the map pretty much done, and I've just got to fix up a few things and it'll be done, and I'll move on to the next map. One of the biggest things I need, though, is a good sky. I need a nice, Alderaan-ish sky with some buildings in the backround and everything. I need someone to make me one. If anyone is interested in helping, drop me a PM, and we'll talk about it. I have a certain idea of how it should really look.
Ace, I'll definitely add some foliage and garden boxes to the map. In fact, now that you mention it, I've got a great idea to include some kinda "mini-park" thing in the center of the map. Deathmaster actually suggested adding some more objects and cover, since it is way too easy to snipe out your opponents from a nice, safe distance, which is basically just the opposite of what this map is really about. It's meant to be a big clash between two forces, with a large brawl in the middle of the city. Not really a sniping map, or even a "capturing the CPs" map. Just a good ol' fashioned brawl with a bunch of guys just duking it out head to head. So adding a little bit of garden boxes and trees and stuff definitely won't hurt. That way, people won't be able to just camp out at a safe distance and snipe out enemy troops from far away. They'll actually have to get down there into the battle to do it.
But, I'll definitely work on the map tomorrow, adding whatever I can and trying to fix up any little problems I may have. I'm looking at a release date somewhere within the next week or so. Maybe sooner, maybe later. Right now, it's kinda hard to tell. I'm really close to finishing, but I may go back and add some more to it. For some reason, the map just doesn't seem "done" to me... it feels like it's missing something... not sure what, but I'll try and think of some of the things that'll make it better.

how bout you put in walls around bothe CPs, so people can't snipe from safe distances. also, the droids like to hide out right below there walkway, decressing the amount of droids in the battle

Shizo if you can't get any modelers to help you could try to use legos, but I don't think they'd provide the effect that you're looking for.

I notice that your map has that "Geonosis tint" that mod maps have by default. I'm not sure if you knew this or wanted to keep the tint in there, but to get rid of it you just do the following...
Go into your sky file.
Put two slashes (//) in front of ObjectVisibility, Ambient Color, TopDirectionalAmbientColor, CharacterAmbientColor, and VehicleAmbientColor.
Save your sky file after putting all the slashes in the right places.
Now just clean and munge then test. The orange tint should be completely gone if you did that ^ correctly.

Yep, I was going to do that later when I got to work on the sky file. Right now, I just replaced the sky texture for now so as you can get an idea of what the map'll look like when it's done. Later, after I finish all the bot paths and everything, I'm going to go back and really work on the sky file, getting rid of the Geo sky objects and replacing them with some backround buildings, get rid of the Geo lighting, etc.

Hey Schizo,
Those Screenies look awesome, man!
That texture you used for the sky looks to me very much like Alderaans sky (minus the Geonosis spires) If thats pretty close to how you want the sky to look, see if you can extract that image file and send it to me. I can then replace the Geonosis stuff with buildings like you sent me. I might even try to put in a nice lush mountain in the background too.
Just zip it up and send it to the email address in the PM's I sent you. I'll try to get to work on it for you tomorrow.

Yeah, I was looking through some of the shipped worlds, and I took a quick look at the Theed sky, and I thought to myself, "Man, that sky's perfect!", so I put it in. But the thing is, I don't need the buildings
on the sky itself; I just need a a seperate image of a group of buildings, so I can use it as a sky dome (which is basically like a second layer which overlaps the first). the Geonosis spires are actually seperate images from the sky itself, tiled on top of the sky. So I'll need just the buildings so I can replace those, and tile the buildings on the sky instead. I actually don't think it would look too good if it was just put on the sky, since it would be all stretched and disorted and everything. If I tiled it as a sky dome, however, it wouldn't be disorted and look much better. I just need an image with some buildings in it like the pic I showed you. It can be as big as you want, but I need it pretty big; at least 700 x 700 pixels or so, and with a transparent backround. That's basically all I need, so if you could do that, that'd be great.
As for the hill, I could actually just color the Geonosis hill in the backround green, making it look like a nice, lush mountain. So all I really need is some buildings to go there, but since I can't really make them... well, I'm relying on you, Joe. Thanks for your help.

It's not meant to be a "real" map. I just figured I'd make it just a huge, bigass battle in the middle of the city. It's rare you ever really get to have a huge battle like this, so I figured I might as well make map like that, so it's straying away from the conventienal kind of map and is offering something a little different. It keeps the game nice and fresh, with plenty of new surprises, you know? Plus, you gotta admit; it's pretty fun to just mow down a bunch of guys while dodging a barage of enemy fire. Those are the kind of maps I like. Though I suppose head-on combat isn't for everyone... so that's why I'm making three different maps, all with their own special differences. That way, everybody wins!
But don't worry; the next map will have plenty of CPs... and flyers! It'll definitely be something to look forward to. But I just wanted to do this map first... since it was the easiest one out of the three.

lol. I like the big battles, but they have to be done right to be fun. They can't take too long, but must be a lot longer than normal maps. Looks VERY good so far.

Thanx NegSmiley!
I'm looking forward to it too. Unfortunately I won't be able to buy it soon, so I hope SWBf1 will still be played and modded for a good while!

Wow... I just fixed up that ugly Geonosis orange-brown tint, and I'm amazed at how much better this map looks. It really looks like Alderaan now.
Before
After
This map is nearly ready for final release. All that's left is to change the units and edit the sky. Then I can get started on the next one. I predict this map will probably be done by Thursday, give or take. Maybe I'll be able to finish it earlier. It all depends if I can get the whole "editing the sides" down. (I'm still having trouble with making custom sides... but I got it figured out... at least, I
hope I do...)
Oh, and Alpha, this map is just that; an intense battle, that's not too long, but not too short. It's really fun to play... though it's extremely hard to play on medium or hard mode. I recommend playing it on easy mode, otherwise, you'll get your Diet Dr. Pepper pwned.
Or maybe I'm just a crappy player. I don't know. But it is fun, either way.

I think it looked a little move lively before. Maybe find some other Ambient color to use? It looks so.... grey and dull. I always thought of Alderaan as colorful and pretty.
