I am thinking maybe it is like applying a texture to the ground that moves.
Just quickly played at work (don't tell my boss) but you can create paths with it and of course choose a texture so I am wondering if you can have say an explosion decal and have it go across the gound. Unfortunately don't have the game at work, that would be pushing it I think, so can't actually test my theory.

is this really some "hidden" mode or is it something people found before, or is it just some useless thing?
i never heard of that mode before
This was found about 3 years ago, there's an older topic in this forum by RC-1290 about it and I also briefly mentioned it in THIS post referring to the .dcl filetype in the world1 folder.
I played around with it long ago but nothing came about, it's unused as far as I could tell, you can just press F11 to bring up Decal Edit Mode in ZE.
Went through about half the stock maps, not used in any of them, and it became pretty apparent that it isn't used in any of them..... And I couldn't get a decal to show up, selecting a texture, etc... I noticed it said "loading decals" or something along those lines when it loads, though.
Beg to differ, it does do something.
Created a path and when I went to see if it did anything in game, went flying above it as Boba and it looked like his cape was dropping off but then I did some controlled flying and got this
As you can see it is a reflection of Boba as he is flying, the texture I used didn't show up so I am not sure about that part maybe the texture has to be stated in a req somewhere. As well still don't know if it has a useful function.
sounds like it could have been used in the circle building on naboo for the floor reflection, and/or the reflective hallway floor on the death star hallways to the hanger.
Those were done through a different method, I'm fairly sure. Saw a FAQ about that somewhere.
Well, Fragme, if you get a custom reflection texture to work, would it be possible to enable decals? Like, you have a snowy patch, and a path over it, and the texture is a snowy footprint....
Upon further playing, I do believe it is something that was tried and abandonned as suggested.
Main reason I say that is that they are not persistant in the editor. What I mean by that is once you leave ZE and go back in to try and edit any previous decals or paths you made don't show up in the list so not only can you not change them you can also not delete them.
Oh well another test map with mysterious things in it.
