Is the engine new? Or are we suppose to pay for these seemingly limited improvements?

Same engine re:images/modeling -although new ships/models appear they use the same structuring.

Gameplay has been updated. Mp code etc..

This is basically Official releases with some ideas we have made and more maps :) Nice work all!

That is not a new game. That is adding a couple new maps and just copy pasting the units to the "new" game.

Dev will not be anouncing anything..they cant really go into detail...this is a publisher related topic until summer.
I'm working on getting better scans now, but in general its talking about the death star maps and Mp features ,but I think they released swbf and have been testing/checking what the community addresses/wants from the next release.

Im thinking some new things we have not been told about will enhance the new swbf2 - but so far im seeing rehash work but thats only from mag scans....

wow, fred, i don't know what to say, other than my eyes hurt, lol. That was a very good post. I personally thought that SWBF 1 was good enough, and i thoroughly liked it. Maybe its because i don't have as much experience with FPSes, so i couldn't really notice the slow framerates everyone whined about, or the fact about no remote admin. It was(and is) still a good game in my book. I know exactly where you are coming from on the whole fact that games change from articles and stuuf, and that you can never know whats going to be in the game untill it is shipped, i own a game for NGC just like that (LOTR:TTA, originally it was supposed to be a completely free-roaming RPG where you could play as evil or good guy, and other things, but it ended up as a totally linear plot and story, along with being evil was only a mini-game, lol). Anyways, i personally don't care what they change in SWBF2, as long as it is still fun, and more than 5 people are online at a time.

Really funny Diet Dr. Pepper statement, that is a great analogy that works. I don't think there are many people that could have said it better than you, Fred. Anyways, I just hope you have fun working on SWBF2, and that I can afford it the first day it comes out, no matter what reviews it gets.

Heh, Well I didn't mean to offend you fred. I was just alittle surprised, like hooteni, in the way that I didn't really see that much wrong with SWBF1. It's only been 6 months since it was released, and was surprised to hear about a new game being released so soon; but I am now anxious to see some of the improvements :)

nimlot and hooteni basically voiced my opinion for me :D

bf is prob one of the funnest games iv played, and is hecka fun to mod.
i just hope that the modding will be similar for bf2 so i won't hav to relearn everything ;)

but it should be interesting to see how the next one will be

I heard spock dies in the end.
Can this be confirmed?

Fred , thats why I like to mod /reverse engineer games .... I've made SWBF do everything I ever wanted ;) With some help from my friends I even made a website and got some folks to share those things. well there was that naked barbie mod I never released.....

From what we have seen so far from 2 scans is all we have posted about and some hearsay from "some" devs "unnamed", what was so offensive to hit us with the "games are all about money , your all modders not devs, no one here has a real opinion, Diet Dr. Pepper stink" talk.

The true fans will always be there and gamers who enjoyed swbf 1 im sure will buy swbf2 regardless of our magazine scans and pre-official information, for those who expressed opinions of dissapointment that there is no "magic patch" for swbf and a new title is coming out makes you sad...never forget the words of the wise man : "And for the record my opinion is as meaningless as yours. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink -- except your own. "

If anyone of you 15% that pay but have no voice want play tonight
I will be playing as ------> [Freshlywiped]KrinK

Fred, I've not heard of those names and didnt find an about page on your site but I imagine its about grassroots gaming? People who made a differnece without selling out to money? taking your own ideas , listening to others and making something happen!

As far as release date drone (one of your dev buds) said fall is the release date.

Mmmm, I don't know whether to be happy, or very dissappointed at hearing this...

Like it has already been said, big companies target big buying masses so of course the infamous "15%" always get screwed over. My problem lies when they have VALID critiques (ie, major game flaws like lack of shipping mod tools and server tools) and yet the devs don't even bother to use them or are pressured into keeping them out just because of that damned "85%".

This lack of interest in customer opinion, to me, is leading to a general decline in gaming quality. Now track with me for a second: Take Doom 3, you have uber graphix, uber physics, uber everything, and 4 players in MP... Now, how stupid is that? 99% of the replayability is shot to hell because of the 85% aka the big bucks.

I don't hold devs accountable for this though, I hold game companies that have become so focused on the bottom line (read, the money) that quality, to them, is just another statistic; to be slapped on the spreadsheet next to consumer demographic and profit/loss margins. I seriously hope these "grassroots" movements can show the world what gaming used to be and should be because right now you can record a picture of a crap onto a CD, slap a cool sticker on it with a nice box, hype it up, and sell it.

In my opinion in a part of your first post you implicity said "the first game was very influenced from the times imposted by the publisher (21th sept = DVD Trilogy gone out). This is like "a bigger part of what the developers wanted to insert in the game but hadn't the time for do it".

However is only my opinion, and like you said, opinions are like Diet Dr. Pepper.... :D

But i hope that one, ONLY ONE of these suggestions will be followed:

- Check the server browser for publish it without any bug.
I remember that in the first week of swb there were a lot of players. But after some day a lot of them disappeared (before the release 1.0a).
Why?
Probably for the game, probably for the cdkey block, but i think a lot for the server browser problem, was very frustrating its use, quite all the times crashed and the entering in a server was a lottery.
Lucasarts make the same error with the more recent SW: Republic Commando, and this is one of motivation (only one eh...) why atm swrc is played online by 20 (30?) players at time.

I hope that swb devs (or anyone that decide for them) will not make another time this error, and will release the linux server files (with the help of the multiplayer test?) too.

The postrelease life of a game is visible on how many players play it online, especially for a multiplayer oriented game series like battlefront (1, 2...3?...).
But for be played online a game need to be hosted by server companies.
The major part of them use linux based machines (for their lower costs) and the releasing of linux server files will be an "invite" for them to support this game after the release.

And without this support the new game will not have a lot more success of the predecessor.
