I have had some evil MSN viruses, and my over-zealous virus scan (NOD32)
has deleted quite a lot of System32 files. I need these files back, so i need to reinstall windows. Will it wipe my hard-drive?

It's better to store all of your important files on CD's, format all your drives, then reinstall the windows OS.

To kill the virus, reformat and reinstall, Yes, it would delete all of your files.
If you just repair, then you will have all of your files and the virus
Backup first

I would say you should just repair your system.
After repairing you can delete all viruses (I use ZoneAlarm Pro [Firewall, virus scanner, etc.], AntiVir PE [free!] and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE [also free!])

PS: defragmenting first your HD!!

How many drives do you have? And how are they partitioned? (2 partitions on drives is one rectangular shiny thing in you're P.C. that shows up as two rectangular shiny icons in windows.)
