Question to glowing for objects

Post by daniel »

hello,
I have a question to glowing objects: I'm using repsharpshooter's meshtool for making materials glowing. So normally if u want a glowing part you type it in the tool, command glow, then material number, blabla.. BUT: the thing is i have a whole bunch of part´s in my object that i want the glow effect for. Do i really have to type in every single number, replace the m5h file, and-so-on...about 25 times or is there a faster way to do this ??

thx in advise

if the meshtool doesnt support glowmap you have to
(but you can simply make 2 materials and apply one of them to the glowing parts and the other one to the non-glowing parts)

I would make all of your glow materials the same material, thus only having one new mesh. Do this by going back into XSI and giving all of your glowing parts the same glow material.

well i did that. (in fact i only have 2 different textures(materials) for glowing).--btw : i have about 25 objects that need glowing-- but when i do the meshtool thing it gives me a 78-part-list of every single used texture(material) in the object(which is normal) and it lists up every single material of the 25. e.g :
0.
1.spa1_bldg_stardesroyer_light1
2.spa1_bldg_stardesroyer_light1
3.spa1_bldg_stardesroyer_light1
.
.
.and so on...

like i said i only have 2 differént materials thatt need glowing.

you obviously dont have just two materials, textures dont equal materials
you have to apply the material that you want to glow to all parts of all objects which have to glow and a second one on all parts of all objects that you dont want to glow

select all soon to be glowing parts then click Material>AssignMaterial and pick the material (when you press "8" and then "M" you get a list of all materials in the scene)
do the same with the not-glowing mobjects

you dont have to create a new material, just delete all materails but two from the material editor and use one for glow ad the other one as normal material

if you dont understand that you should probably read somewhere what materials and textures are (not meant to be rude, but i gave you the answer in the first post and when you dont understand it you shouldprobably do some research)
