Any ideas about the official name of this droid?



source said towdroid but i can´t find infos about it.

It's head makes me think Pit Droid: And the rest of it makes me think Probe Droid: Never seen that particular droid though......

I don't think it's really a "canonical" droid, because I went ahead and looked through most of the droids pictured on Wookieepedia.

That droid was featured in the extended podracing scene of The Phantom Menace. Its function is to tow away wrecked podracer parts or perform maintenence on podracers
It was made into an action figure paired with Teemto, the Podracer. Here is a close up pick of the figure, which is similar to the one you posted: And, here is the link to the site that calls it a maintenence spider droid (not related to the Separatists)

It was also seen in the intro "movie" for Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (at least for the pc version) picking up the remains of gasgano's podracer.

You know, when I first saw the topic name I thought you were asking us to come up with a name. I think I would have called him George if that was the case.

It´s sad but there won´t be any George on my map.
I watched the scene today and realized that the towdroids are realy huge.
Thought that they are small like the Podracer droids but they are big as vehicles.
Sorry Teancum, no George droid.

I don't really have anything to offer as for a name, other than giving a clue as to it's purpose. I just saw this thing in RotS (timestamp 24:05 - 24:09), and it's shown preparing to pick up a box or crate just before Anakin asks Obi-Wan if he's coming to meet with the Senators.

Mavs idea was correct. I have a book at home with like 23 pages on droids. But still I'm not sure if it entirely correct because the eyes look different. Oh well, close enough...
