Started a dedicated thread so as not to clutter up the Model Showcase.

PPSH-41

Just finished redoing the front of the barrel cover due to weird smoothing after the sub-divide op.
Still have more details to go over on the upper, then the making the mags and the sights. After those I move onto the Low-Poly then the UV map and the bake and texture process.

Necroing My WIP thread since I decided to stop being lazy and produce 3D stuff again.

Lost some old project files after I forgot to back them up during a reformat.

PPSH-41 is dead
EO-Tech Holosight is dead (will restart)

Old WIP shot of Holosight before it died.

Current

M4/AR15 - Working on the Lower right now, which is pretty much generic for all AR15 based weapons. Lower is about 80% done, then I start on the Upper/Receiver. Planning on doing at least three different Stocks and different rail accessories.

I have a copy of your PPSH-41.

@RogueKnight- You have the old one that I gave out. Not the new one I was working on.

Progress:

Upper is 75% done, need to finish the brass ejection port, and add some more control edges to fix smoothing issues. Lower is nearly done, just need to add a few small details and punch holes into it for switches and bolts.

Moar progress. Doing the brass eject area was so fun :P.

Still need to punch holes and cutouts into the lower and upper for various tidbits. Time to start on the grip and stock though.

Man, if there was one thing I wish I was better at (other than sculpting; that should be every 3D artists goal to get better at) it would be subdivision modeling for hard surfaces and such.

Any tips for a learning artist?

Any tips for a learning artist?
1. Research and learn the concepts behind Sub-D modeling
2. Lurk and read topics at sites like Polycount, GameArtisians, Eat3D.
This topic is highly recommended: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56014
3. Practice with basic shapes and concepts.
4. Use good concept art and/or tons of good references.
5. Go for the highest amount of accuracy to concept/reference that you can.
6. Always push yourself yo do something you haven't done.
7. Once you have the basic idea down, do complicated stuff, guns are good practice.
8. Always check your references.
9. Start with the basic shapes then work up into the details.
10. Develop a workflow that is efficient and comfortable for you.
11. Check out others work, do not copy them, and do not make their mistakes.

EDIT
NecroBumpOfRelevence!

Continued to work on this. I should keep at 3D stuff more often :P
Making the standard old school M4A1 barrel cover first, RIS variant will be next.

Moar progress

Redid the handguards, since the first one was not accurate. Need to finish the sights, stock and then add some of the smaller details.
