I will post some of my better models (though not all, obviously) steadily as I work on my project Earth: Apocalypse. This will include the following:

-Some of my damaged buildings
-Some buildings with interiors
-Vehicle models
-Weapon models

I will update this thread about 1-2 times a week. IF I dont post in a while, please don't ask when the next update will be. This is the thread I will use until I get to about halfway complete mapping wise at which point I will start a WIP thread and request a lock for this topic. The underlying point of this thread is to help me improve my models/textures by getting feedback from the community about what works and what doesn't work.

Yeah, there will be vehicles I plan on modelling in about 4-5 months down the road. First Im making my 3d art so I can map, and once my mapping is finished then I will do sides and vehicles.

Vehcle idea: A beat-up old pickup truck with a mounted machine-gun-turret on the back.

I could make a technical, sure (thats what they are called :wink: ) I was going for tanks, jeeps, and jets (jets similar to snow speeders) but a technical will work nicely for the terrorists and jeeps for team U.S.A

on a different note updated my model with damage on different axis, it will be obvious in the screenshots.

It looks a bit strange, and doesn't make much sense imo, for a wall to be curvy like that. They're usually built straight, and when damaged they fall apart into bricks or chunks rather than bend like that. I would say it looked just fine without the bends on the extra axis.

Allright, its not hard to remove the bends. I thought thats what someone said to do to it though :? Let me see if I cant find the post....

I didn't mean for the wall to be bendy when I recommended adding damage in the other axis. I was thinking along the lines of chips taken out of the edges, small jagged indents, etc.

Oooohhhh, okay. I will post an updated version tomorrow!

EDIT: Here is my garage. I will model the logs, and change the roof but for now this is the WIP.

Looks interesting. Is the hole in the back flat on the edge that connects the back wall to the side wall? If it is, I'd either wrap the hole around to the side too or add jagged edge back to the back wall.

All those models look pretty cool! :thumbs: If this is a city, maybe you could also make civilian car props that are destroyed from fighting :wink:

Sort of off topic: How did you learn to model like that? the only tut that made sense to me only talked about modifying primitives, which to me doesn't seem like the only/best way and it looks like you did it in an easier way. If there is a tutorial that you used could you please send (PM or post) me a link? :o

Looks good, but I think the texture might be a bit "big" (not tiling enough) and I agree with Kinetos.

Ah, that's what you meant by "logs." OK, makes sense. Also, where do you get/how do you make your textures? They all look very good to me!

I use CG textures and then either make minor edits or drastically edit them. Usually slight color edits, smudging, and contrast/brightness. Sometimes I add more detail. As for modelling, I had a modelling course in school using softimage so thats how I learned. I plan on going into game design as a career. There are also XSI learning tutorials by vast if I recall correctly. If you want, I can teach you, add me on x-fire. I use softimage 2013, by the way. Its fairly easy, I would show you the tricks I used and some general useful tips. Or I could teach you from the ground up, lol.

The map is a small town. It will be the city in the middle, followed by hills around it and tanks, jeeps, and jets (snowspeeders). Marth will be making the automobiles. Feel free to post them, marth, when you have them ready. As for destroyables, I thought I would do barrels, and maybe the cars. The buildings typically wont be destroyable, if I have destroyable buildings. This takes place in Russia, outside Moscow. USA vs Russia, with authentic weapons. Maybe not the standard issue weapons but weapons used by that country, or associated with that country. World war 3 type of deal. I hope you guys like what your seeing so far!

Ok I'll add you on xfire but I use Mod tool 7.5 so I don't know if everything will translate from XSI 2013 to mod tool :(

It wont but why are u using mod tool if softimage is completly free for students?
