Very good map, but it could have done with AI heroes in my opinion.

Wow, the map is actually way smaller than what I thought it would be, but then it is only an office building...

This looks awesome Rep! Downloading now. I'm actually kind of glad you didn't do custom sides, as that would only make the filesize alot bigger.
Also, i was wondering, do you think you could add rising son as an era to this? Because i reckon it would be pretty awesome on this map, not to mention it would only add a couple of Kb in filesize...
EDIT:Ok. I've just finished playing it and i really liked it. I didn't think it was too small. Far from it. The size was perfect to me.....
My only issue was some badly applied textures which didn't line up, both on some walls, and on the pillars near one of the cps. Apart from that, I didn't see anything wrong. And I really liked all the models you made for this. They really go together well in this map.
Oh. And maybe add a loadscreen? It makes waiting for the map to load a bit more interesting

Re: Coruscant: Palpatine's Office
I pretty much have the opposite opinion. Every mapper seems to think that custom sides will save a mediocre-to-crappy map, and often the sides are horribly unbalanced and inefficient, requiring me to download 160mb for a map that ends up getting deleted from my drive after 20 minutes.AgentSmith_#27 wrote:I'll sum up the map in five words: Nice but nothing too extraordinary.
I've tried it out and the models, background city, details, are all very very nice. The custom models, skydome, everything, looks really visually appealing, and as far as I can tell the map is fully functional. I'll go so far as to say the appeal for me ends there, because after 6 years of securing battlefronts, enemy flags, or just plain old deathmatching, I'll admit I've gotten pretty tired of the stock sides and maps. The map is small, it felt like there should have been *some* sort of exterior. I always am exploring new maps I download for something out of the ordinary, something different from the usual fray of things. Sorry to say I haven't really found it here.

Dude. I have nothing wrong with criticism, but you seem to be a bit too fussy with your maps. Oh, and this map is most definitely NOT ordinary. If you can make a map half as well balanced, fun and visually appealing as this I'll eat my words.

Did you just criticize another persons criticism before actually playing the map? You cite balance and some other things about the map and then say "downloading now".
@Rep: The map looks really well done. While I probably won't get to play it, I can respect the amount of work that went into this, and if I do play, I sure won't be posting up a snarky review, because although your gameplay model may not suit me, I can respect the work that went into this.

I went back and edited in the criticism after playing, as i thought it was probably best to put it with the other stuff i was saying to him.Grev wrote: Did you just criticize another persons criticism before actually playing the map? Re: Coruscant: Palpatine's Office
This is a very good and well laid out map, I think it would be awesome on multiplayer as you can and will get attacked from all sides which keeps you on your toes. As well as visually stunning.
It is also well balance AI wise, played 1 flag and it was lots of fun with lots of shooting turning around and a lot more shooting, as I said they do tend to come at you from all sides.
As Tean said, good planning and pathing will save a map a lot better than custom sides will rescue a poorly designed map.
And I couldn't resist I did jump on the window ledge as Mace ala movie but I still have my hands and didn't get pushed out the window.

True maybe you won't see a map half as well balanced, or visually appealing from me because A. I'm not that good at modeling and definitely not texturing and B. because I am shooting for something different from the same old ho-hum of swbf2 that we're all used to. OF COURSE stock sides are going to be balanced. But I beg to differ on the *fun* part. Fun is, of course, subjective to opinion, but I've had much more fun playing things that were different (not to sound pompous, but since you bring it up, including my own) than just Good or even pretty Good maps.lucasfart wrote:If you can make a map half as well balanced, fun and visually appealing as this I'll eat my words.
I didn't say I needed there to be custom sides, (Really custom sides don't *have* to take up 160 mb) In fact often times I can agree with you. I just wish there were *something* a little different here, aside from (of course) the great props. Coruscant City, for example, tbh wasn't that visually appealing, didn't (to my memory) have custom sides, but it just felt different. I'm a person that enjoys a Great map that is ordinary less than a Good map that's different.Teancum wrote:I pretty much have the opposite opinion. I also really like the map. I'm sure it would be great in multiplayer. The only real problem is that in SP the battle is very short. I might need to actually increase the AI count for once though...

Just use the mommy rule: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Rep stated in his opening post that he doesn't have the modding time he used to, so I don't think he's going to go back and edit what you, yourself, have called, "A very good map," to make it juuuuuust that much better. So if there's slim to no chance of the creator going back to the map, there's really no point in constructive criticism except to make the creator feel bad about a very good project.
I, on the other hand, just played through it about 5 times. Enjoyed every round. The separate rooms make a very nice "alternate route" strategy as well as work against you when trying to protect your CPs. Also, the map stays well and true to it's namesake. I really felt like I was playing inside the movie set. Nice job as always, Rep, now bring us DMI, lol.

Re: Coruscant: Palpatine's Office
Why is everyone acting so offended? I'd still give the map a 7/10, I was just criticizing a bit. I know DMI is coming soon, so I'd just hate to see it end up like this did. (Nice but nothing amazingly special) If the author has other priorities I completely understand, but what's wrong with giving honest opinions about maps? What difference does it make if he's not going to edit it any more? My thoughts are still the same, and those thoughts are mostly positive. The idea that any criticism that's not: SQUEAL! BEST MAP EVUR! Is "not nice" just doesn't make any sense. I think mommy can powder one's A....er, posterior so much anything that *could* be offensive is.Twilight_Warrior wrote:Just use the mommy rule: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Edit: By *special*, I meant anything like breakable glass where windu would've gotten thrown out, it doesn't have to be massive changes, just one ODF line could've brought a new element to the map.

Re: Coruscant: Palpatine's Office
When your criticism amounts to "nice but I want more," then it's no longer constructive criticism, it's just whining. When the entirety of your criticism is focused on things that could have been done instead of things that were done, then it's just whining. There's a big difference between giving critique on something that is part of the map or mod and interjecting your own wishes upon it.AgentSmith_#27 wrote:Why is everyone acting so offended? And that needs to be the last word on it. No more back-and-forth in the thread, please.
