2015 is the year for everything Star Wars and even if one thing disappoints me, I still have numerous other events!

Some news:
Battlefield 4’s executive producer Patrick Bach has discussed the progress on DICE’s upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront title, revealing that the team has yet to decide whether to make the game feel more like Battlefield or previous Star Wars: Battlefront titles.
“We haven’t really locked that down yet,” Bach told VideoGamer.com earlier today when asked which direction DICE was taking for the upcoming reboot, and whether it would feel more familiar to Battlefield players than Battlefront fans.
“I think there’s of course a part of the DICE DNA to build the games that we’re building, but then again we’re building games like Mirror’s Edge as well. So I think it will be a challenge for us. “(You’re) damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” he continued. “People don’t want another Battlefield with Star Wars graphics; they want a Star Wars game that is proper.
“But then again, if you compromise brilliant design choices from Battlefield just because you’re not allowed from some kind of moral standpoint, then I think that’s also wrong. We need to make the best game possible. What that means in detail, we will see.”
Source
“It’s going to take awhile,” he said. “We just announced the license and showed a sneak peek of Hoth. The speeder and the AT-AT will be in [the game] for sure.” DICE is working on the game because after EA landed the deal, developers from the studio came to him to ask to make it, Soderlund said.
“I didn’t think they wanted to build it,” he said. “I thought they only wanted their own IP. But it’s a really good fit.”
The team working on the new game will be looking at everything as they work on this new title, he said, including the work put into Star Wars: Battlefront 3 before it was cancelled.
“We didn’t toss anything out,” he said. “We’re looking at the old games. We have access to everything that was done during the LucasArts era. But we do want to take our own stance.”
I had a second link but apparently the form is invalid with it in. Obviously I cannot double-post, so I'll try posting it if the topic gets a reply. You can read the whole thing then, because it not only concerns SWBF but
all Star Wars games.
EDIT: Working now for some reason. Here's the article:

Well there are no shortage of "Battlefront 3 wishlists" out there if they want to listen to the fans.
DICE is one of the most talent filled companies out there. The only bad thing of theirs I've played is the multiplayer for Medal of Honor.

I'm just happy they're taking a good look at the older games. While I do hope they'll put their own unique spin on the game, I still hope they'll incorporate some of the elements that made SWBF stand apart from Battlefield, like Instant Action, playable heroes (although they'd need fine-tuning), Galactic Conquest, class-based gameplay (I did not like the custom loadout idea that Renegade/Elite had). I also hope they'll achieve that much grander scale that SWBFIII was obviously going for.

Well said, ggctuk. If I had to pare that list down to one most important thing, though, I'd have to say I would choose class-based gameplay. (well, maybe Instant Action)

As someone who isn't a fan of playing games in MP a lot instant action would be a must personally. I have some of the battlefield games and don't want battlefield with star wars weapons, want it to emulate the originals more but definitely DICE should put it's own spin on it.

I think class-based gameplay is almost a guarantee, no matter which direction DICE takes. Distinct classes are a core component of both the original Battlefront games and the Battlefield games. I wouldn't mind a small amount of customization within the classes, though - for example, choosing a DC-15A rifle vs. a DC-15S carbine for clone troopers, or thermal detonators vs. EMP grenades.

Yeah I think that level of customization would be good.
One thing, a lot of the other shooter's I've played recently, TF2, Half Life, CS:GO, BF2 (demo), have only 1 "weapon channel" so to go from rifle to knife or grenade takes too much time. I hope there are multiple "channels" like how SWBF, Halo, SWRC, and that type work, with separate channels for primary weapons in one, nades and other secondaries in a second, and melee in a third, or even just in the secondary, a saber or electrostaff would be primary of course.

Fast-switch in the Source Engine works pretty well and keeps the flow up enough, I think, but I do like the idea of sticking to two weapon channels.

I haven't found it that helpful.

There are like those - numbered - keys. Directly above where you usually have your hand on the keyboard. I could imagine they would be very useful in such a situation.

I get what you're saying, but as an avid TF2 player I can assure I've done everything in my scripting-power to avoid having to use the number keys to switch weapons. I find them to be, clunky I suppose for weapon selection. My baby-man hands probably have something to do with this as well.

I've gotten used to the one-channel weapon setup, but I've never liked it as much as the two-channel setup of Battlefront.

Do you have a mouse with thumb buttons on the side, by chance? I bought a cheap mouse with two thumb buttons recently, and I tried setting the thumb buttons to do different things in some shooter games - in one game, I set them to switch between my rifle and pistol, and in another I set them to throw a grenade and perform a melee attack. I really liked both options.

Yeah I have side buttons, use them in RC for melee and zoom, Not sure about things like HL and CS. IDK if the controls menu recognizes them. SWTOR has trouble with them, but i've gotten it to work.

I actually do have a couple thumb buttons, though they aren't the nicest (they're too high up on the mouse, and are quite thin). I usually have them set to push-to-talk anyways. I may reconsider though and try out using them as weapon switching. It's a good idea.

The trouble for me with hotkeys is I usually have to take my left hand off WASD to hit all but a few of them. In something like Battlefield where standing still is an invitation to get shot, that's a bit of a problem. I don't have a fancy mouse with turbo buttons. The scroll wheel works fine for one or two, but to scroll through a whole list is a bit much. I prefer SWBF2's two channel system, and maybe a third button for melee would be nice.

Fiodis makes a good point about long amounts of weapons. I find that the one-channel system is best for two or three weapons. Any more, and it is a bit of an interruption to scroll through the long list of weapons.
Regarding side buttons, I've found them really useful and typically have one set to melee attack or reload, and the other set to something regarding field of view (switch 1st to 3rd in battlefront).

I like all the hot keys in battlefront personally, and I'm also fine with stopping to use them as in battlefront I have literally zero sense of self-preservation whatsoever (I usually die at least 25 times per game

) but yes I'd like the 2 channel weapons because frankly I've never really played any other shooter except maybe one game here or there at a friend's house.

I'd like it to be more close to Battlefront games than to Battlefield. I also hope they make the land-to-space maps.
