my guess is disney will bust out a fast game to accompany the release of the new star wars movies, they will probably outsource to indian coders which is (in truth) cheaper, and there is no issues with health insurance, benefits etc...it cracks me up when i see these commercials for "learn how to make games at art institute" etc.. yea you pay $100,000 and they teach you but someone in india will get the job. anyway im ranting i think the games that disney will do will be generic, safe, all ages, bantha splat. sadly almost all movie games from disney are trash

Ditto. I really doubt we'll see a new RTS, RPG, TBS or serious FPS from Star Wars. Hopefully, they won't stop the gaming community from making their own games.

Why would the contract between LucasArts and steam affect the release of source code?

If releasing the source code can in any way affect the sales of the game, it could. Also, isn't Jedi Academy still for sale on Steam?

This would be very fun. Microsoft Visual C++ is free so everyone can build his own version of the game. So why should anyone buy?

This would be exactly why whoever owns the source wouldn't want to release it.

Yes, it's on there for $10.

Because an engine is not a game, and a community-based content game (like OpenArena) will never be the original.

Precisely: you won't get the assets with the engine. It's just the engine.

It's just the code to the game engine. You don't get the levels, characters, etc for free.

Releasing the code will not affect sales at all since you have to know very well what you're doing to even get it to the point of compiling since game sources CAN NOT be compiled as is. Also like said, no assets come with it, just the engine, we also got the sources to the tools like ModView, Assimilate and Radiant.

Yes. Disney just purchased one of the larger franchises ever, I guess they're not gonna want to make money selling games. I mean, who even buys those?

So does this mean I won't get to see the other two Monkey Islands, Grim Fandango, and other non-SW classics re-released?

Don't get me wrong, nobody said that Disney wouldn't make games. But games that can be controversial, and are targeted at a more specific group? Come on, when was the last time Disney actually RISKED on anything.

What was that one DS game that did relatively well that had nothing to do with Disney characters and was still made by Disney?

Spectrobes?

Or how about those two racing games that were at least above par?
Pure?
Split/Second?
