With all the players/members we have attained its getting time to look into a fully dedicated windows servers to use in matches and for our clan/hosting custom maps.... anyone think we could get enough monthly donations to make this work...or know of a good source for affordable swbf servers... everytime I go n xfire there are over 30 people ready to play , its just a shame not to have a dedicated gametoast home!

Yes Guru, we can accomplish this. What would be the overall cost? What do we need to set one up? A High speed connection beyond cable/home DSL would be needed I should think. Server hardware is no problem.

free I meant public server as in anyone can play...sorry was VERY unclear there (I meant public server)
lol
I spent about 20 minutes looking for those because all other game servers didn't support SWBF... =/
I think I did see some game server sites where you could request that a game could be supported...

Guru, i understand your situation, we was on the same situation before the decision of taking a server. And i have to admit that it has been a very good decision, that produced a lot of progress for us.
Now, the first things that you have to decide is:
- Number of slots (16, 24, 32)
- Public (with the possibility to be passworded whenever u want) or Private only
- Location (USA or Europe)
- Number of GT "payers" (who will pay the server)
- Rent Company Name in the server name (if there is the Company name the price is lower)
Imho, only after that you might start to search a good price.
[Remember: do NOT confuse server session rent with server machine rent, here we are speaking about session rent, machine rent is much much much more expensive (but much usefull for multigaming clans).]
For example our server is a 32 Slot max (can be changed to any value between 1 and 32 when we want) Public (can be passworded) based in Italy, rented for 3 months from
http://www.gamesnet.it
It costs 45 euros at month + taxes = 162 euros (taxes included) for 3 months, payed in about 16 people.

Good idea. Paying for a slot on a good line will ultimately be the best solution and I really hope this works out. I'd love to play in a [GT] dedicated server. I hope ALL the [GT] members are with you on this one.
If it doesn't work out then it's always possible do what the (BFD) clan are doing and run a seperate windows PC as the dedicated server using the dedicated server application.
The (BFD) clan did this because one of the members has a spare PC with good spec and a decent ADSL connection.
I've played in this server for months now and it's a good alternative to paying for a dedicated (prying cash from the (BFD) clan would be like opening oysters with a cotton bud - lol).
Just an option if hosting with a company doesn't work out.

GT training grounds will be on every day (after working hours GMT) and all weekend long, I think we can host 10 players.

man, you two are the BEST

but there STILL is the Global Ping - but for us europes, this will have a low ping (like when I play XSL on their italian server) but for guys from Asia or on the other side of the world - America - the ping there is WAY too low...
so we should get an europe server, and an US - or American server if possible, so EVERYBODY can get a low ping
I REALLY would donate if I could, but I simply dont have the money - but if I some day wins a few millions, I'll donate a few bucks

or probably 5$
well, at least my point is, that we need servers that have low ping ALL over the world - if possible

or maybe Guru should start earning money with pop-ups and some small links, so he earns a few bucks when people click on thoose links.

A good idea Qdin this site gets alot of traffic which may double when SWBF2 is realeased.A sponsor would be good, sure someone could enlighten us on this or am i speaking out of turn,Guru what is your thoughts on this as Gametoast is your site...For those of us who like swbf it is a FANTASTIC web site and deserves some credit.I know there are some guys on here who work with Pandemic studios and maybe lucasart, peraphs they can throw a few scraps to the SWBF fans!!!
I would contribute if push came to shove but i know it will cause a few problems with the wife(for those married with children you know what i mean)

lol, yeah - I'm not married - but if you mean that some money "suddenly disappears" then my parents wont be that happy about it, lol
I think Guru should get something out of this - he done SO much for us, so I wouldnt mind a pop-up or two here on gametoast so long as Guru gets the money

so THANKS AGAIN GURU!!!
btw, is there anybody who works with lucasarts or pandemic??? hehe, then I have some fast questions

lol
I think you get 0,05 $ per "sponsor" or for each time somebody click on thoose... is it called "ads"? from... lets take Google

well, at least you can get your lifesaving alone through gametoast

lol
think about it Guru - you deserve it

The reason this site will last forever is becuase it will always be spam free, i used to have google ads and a few others on here , they pay crap if no one clicks on them, which exactly 1 in 1000 did, woo hoo , now I can pay for that $.02 bubble gum ive always wanted.
In short those sound great but in 10 years online with websites there is no earnings , ever from spam unless you ruin your site with 10 popups 50 banners and so forth... Id rather delete the site then spam everyone....wish this role would spread to the other SWBF sites but ala$, i doubt it.
I do it for free, and the server would be a huge cost unless we there were actual dontations torward it, besides swbf2 is out in 160 days, and has LINUX support, so we can host 64 player games once that is out!!!!!

I understand your reasons, but I STILL think you should have a little Google Ads somewhere hidden or so - just for fun

lol
and I'm GLAD we can count on you
so I guess you have to get donations instead
fair enough

Yes Guru. I'd Click it every day, and thinl of you and Ignore what I see, use the back button, and click the link agian! (You might want to delete this thread if you do get ads:) I don't think ad companies like to get ripped off.)
I'd donate, its just there is no reliable way to know my money where it went, no offence 'Guru' whoever you are!
Guru, how much does your ISP charge for an adequate connection?
Another solution is to beg your local library or a school that has a fast connection to run the server on it. Network Admins at that place probably know how to put a bandwidth limit on it during high traffic hours, so it would be like its not even there!
Or guru, just do what Eddie did, or maybe Pyshc0fred could do it.
I desperately want a place to play the best mods with 20 people.
I think right now my best chance is TAW, but someone said they could not get it to work on 1.3 or 1.2(a lie?).

I own the TAW number 5 server....
so i can do whatever i want with it.
I don't know about supporting 20 people though unless i upgrade my Bandwidth....i will go talk to teh cable company tomorrow about seeing how much BW i can get.

#5 is alive....hehe , sounds good Banzai please keep us posted

it's alive, even though the ping readsd out as 9999 no one had a problem joining last night.
my router doesn't allow pings....so it will always say 9999 unless i get a different router...
