Guns for Jedi

Post by Blade »

Hey, just a quick question. Is it possible to give a Jedi hero a Gun-type weapon, like a shotgun?

I tried simply replacing force push with a shotgun, but it didn't show up in the game.

If it can be done, it'd be great if you could give me tips on how to do it; and if it can't, well, that's ok too. :D

the jedi animations don't have a gun included, so you could technically insert hans animations with a jedi's in a custom animation, but it might be too much for the character to handle.

Yes, they do. The only thing different about the Jedi animationbanks is that sometimes (if not using Luke's combo) they have different melee animations than a regular human unit.

Well, I just noticed that the AI Luke (unit I gave the shotgun) uses it, but on my, player-controlled Luke, it doesn't even show up in the weapon's selection.

If you want a gun, you want it to be a primary weapon. That means you can:
a) Give him a range weapon instead of a saber
b) Give him a ranged weapon (as the first primary) and a melee (as the second primary - has to be this order)

With option "b" you're not going to be able to use any secondary weapons, though, due to the way melee weapon combos shift around the keymap.

Well, if I gave him a ranged weapon as the primary, could I still make a melee weapon as the secondary? So that he can still use a lightsaber, but also a Ranged.

No... like I said, if you want him to be able to use both, you'll assign a ranged weapon to primary slot 1, and a melee to primary slot 2.

When I use the words "primary" and "secondary," I'm referring to the way SWBF2 uses them - primary means you use it with the left mouse button and secondary with the right. I'm not talking about WeaponSections in .odf files. In .odfs, whether a weapon is primary or secondary is determined by whether you have the line "WeaponChannel = 1" in the WeaponSection (primary weapons don't have the line, secondary weapons do). You can have more than one primary weapon - see every stock trooper unit for examples.

also a note about the ai, they control weapons differently then when you control the character. A couple times I have noticed that they are using a weapon that you are unable to switch to.
