1-Halo 2
2-The ability to mod Halo 2 myself
3-The currently released Halo 2 mods, including 100+ new maps
4-Forza Motorsport
5-XBox Live!
6-Star Wars Battlefront II (with downloadable content)
7-I want to try making XBox SWBF2 mods
8-The original Halo and all of its mods
9-Quake 3 Arena (open source PC conversion)
10-Quake 2 (open source PC conversion)
11-Quake (open source PC conversion)
12-Duke Nukem 3D (open source PC conversion) - plus all its mods
13-Custom XBox dashboards like UnleashX
14-Nintendo 64 Emulator
15-SNES Emulator
16-Genesis Emulator
17-NES Emulator
18-Four controller ports
19-Ability to network four XBoxes together
20-Analog L/R buttons on the controllers, plus the S controller fits perfectly in my hand

And just to be fair, a few reason why I wouldn't want one (barring next-gen consoles)
1-No Guitar Hero/Guitar Hero II --Greatest.Game.Evar!
2-No Gran Turismo 4....Oh wait, Forza is 10x better
3-...nope, guess that's it.

Not to disgurage you, but:
Halo 2 modding has had little succes with modding. Console modding is very difficult considering you need a modded Xbox to do it. You can soft mod but you won't get all of the modding capabilities. Converting you Xbox requires some sodering and tweaking. Not to mention you run the risk of having you Xbox live account banned by microsoft when logging on with a modded Xbox. I've known several poeple that have had their Live acount banned because of modding. All the emulators you are talking about are also illegal and created without the consent of Nitendo or the other companies.

Halo 2 mods are not exactly what you might think. Most of the 100+ maps turn out to be just simple color changes of the stock maps.

Modding a console (making mods that is) is also very difficult to do.

While all the games you listed (genuin Xbox games like Halo 2) are great. Forza is a very fun game and a good simulator. The controller works well for a console (however still has all the problems as a normal controller). Also considering that with the Xbox 360 out, the normal price has dropped a lot. This makes the console great for a secondary gaming system. Overall, I really like the Xbox but only for Halo and a few other games, not for the modding.

You posted 'illegal', then failed to specify how it's illegal. Console modding is not illegal, nor is game modding. And I'm no cheater, so I'd never run any mods on XBox Live. That's how folks get banned. I've done a lot of homework on the subject so I wouldn't get banned if I had it.

I have a friend who mods Halo 2, he's screwed it up a couple times (as in, almost killed his Xbox), but he has been succesful in modding on the most part.

Good point, and I know your not a cheat (So, I just editied my post). However, consoles are built for regularity and its very difficult, not to mention the risk factor involved in just getting a modded xbox. The easiest (unless your a do-it-yourself type) is just to buy a modded Xbox. But thats my opinions and not to discourgae you.

Yeah, for me that will be part of the fun of it. The do-it-yourself. I build PCs all the time for friends and family, so this will be fun to do. Plus I can put to rest all my old, dusty systems like the N64, SNES and NES that are boxed up.

Now if I can only scrounge up about 200 extra bucks I can pick a used one up and get a big hard drive. :P

You forgot that you need one to play, RoTS the video game!!! I love that game.

Wouldn't you want a 360 at this point instead of a Xbox?

Wait for the Wii to play old Nintendo games! :)

The 360 is so darned expensive. No way am I going to shell out 400 bucks. Anyone who does has money to burn.

I suppose in reality I'm just tired of my Gamecube. There's Metroid, then like 10000 Mario spinoff games, then Zelda.

I wouldn't question an Admin... :D

BTW, I'd agree with Vyse on this. Wait for the Wii. Rememeber, Nintendo announced that there'll be games with ratings over T, if you like those types of games :P

But, if you REALLY don't want a Wii go for an XBox 360. But an XBox is cool too :)

@ Aussie -- it fits into "Game Informer" because I'm discussing why the XBox rocks, which though opinionated is still discussion on gaming. But thanks for junior moderating anyways.

Ah, the X-box...a console, not a game. ;) Besides, the topic was originally a list of why you wanted an X-box, not even really anything about it (if you know what I mean; I suck at wording stuff like that). Then, the conversation shifted to what you wanna do with it and random comments about the Wii...but, whatever. I won't continue that.

I think RDST meant that the emulators on the xbox are illegal .

If you own the game and console that is, they are somewhat legal on the pc. Having emulators on your PC as a backup is one thing, but having it on another consolde would definetly not be legal by Nintendo. Remember the emulator is playing another console's game on this console, which are two seperate consoles and competetors.

Though I can't say for certain, I'm sure thats the case. Either way, they can't find out.

If I own the system and the games, it's all good. Sadly, my NES doesn't work. The SNES and N64 do however, I just don't have them hooked up. They sit in a closet in a sealed box so that someday I can show my kids the systems. It would be like kids playing Atari 2600 or Commodore 64 now. :P

The thing is, Nintendo or Sega or any other console company cannot prosecute emulators. They are written completely from scratch and contain no actual code from the console company. Also, (slightly off topic) the NES lost its copyright about a year or two ago. You can actually buy custom Nintendos now.

Heh, so that means that NES emulators aren't illegal anymore? :D

Why does there have to be such a fuss about it?? If Tean' wants an XBox, then let him get it! :)

 What? No Halo 3? I know, 400 dollars is hard to come by, and my allowance doesn't exactly allow for it, but that's why grass grows!! 8)

I can agree, that Forza is awesome, and I haven't played Halo 2 yet.

Must. Get. Xbox. 360. Argh!!! *bashes head on keyboard until he has enough money*
