What are some "must-have" mods for a beginning player?

Hey guys. I'm fairly new to this website, so I'm sure that this might be an often-asked question and many might redirect me to other threads, but I just want to make sure that I have all of the best up-to-date mod suggestions.

I recently purchased SWBF2, and of course, I want to make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible. I searched around on moddb and filefront for the most-downloaded mods, and wanted to make sure that all of these are compatible before I spend the bandwidth:

http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... Pack;94154
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... tch;98307x
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... reme;96607
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... tch;95418x
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... on;116087x

Are there any other mods that I should get, or should I ignore any of the above? I'm not looking for total gameplay overhaul mods. I just want more maps and perhaps more units, but nothing too daunting.

The last two, 1.3 Patch and Dark Times II, are MUST HAVES. They are probably the best two mods for Battlefront. Though Dark Times comes with 1.3 patch, so you only need to download that.
By the way, welcome to Gametoast! Enjoy your stay! :)

With the Conversion Pack, Battlefront Extreme, and the Dark Times II I feel that you might go over the 500 mission limit.

Between the Conversion pack and the Extreme mod, what would you suggest?

Even if you've never played Mass Effect, this mod is a must-try. http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-mass-effect-mod

If you want better maps, you should look for individual maps. Very few of the maps packed with large mods have the same level of love poured into them as some of the better individual maps (although the large mods are certainly worth your download).

I like Jendo07's and Jaspo's maps. Nal Hutta: Slums is great, too. Also, my BF1 Conversion Pack. :)

That's all I can think of right now, since I didn't play BF2 for quite some time. I'm sure there are a lot of good maps I didn't play yet.

Okay, you need the Convo Pack and BFX immeditly. Also get the maps that you wish came with BF2, but never did, like Palpatine's office, Death Star 2, Naboo: Theed Hangar...etc etc. :) Dark Times is to big IMO

Convo Pack is always my first install on a fresh copy of BF2 - it feels incomplete without it. The Dark Times is a fine expansion in it's own right and I only wish I'd gotten through all of it by now.

I've always kept BFX in my secondary addon folder, but I don't usually actually use it. It's one of the best sides mods out there, but the 500-mission limit makes it impossible to use with the above two mods, so I have to push it out.

I would suggest +123, but like BFX, the 500-mission limit pushes it out, although I consider +123 an extremely underrated mod.

Also tend to add:
- SBF_Dann_Boeing's The Cage Match is a favorite of mine.
- Coruscant: City by Rends is pretty much my favorite mod map of all-time. I usually keep Coruscant: Streets alongside it.
- Death Star II: Emperor's Throne Room is new to me but I can't imagine uninstalling it in the near future.
- I have a backup of Kamino: Serene by astute and if I always throw it into my addon folder if I can.
- Dogfighting Death Star, where you fly from the Yavin Base through the Trench Run, much like the above, I have backed up and usually reinstall.

That's already 40 or 50 maps altogether so you have plenty of fun to have now :D

Oh, first of all, if you are trying to get mods from http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/ and are unfamiliar with the site's quirks, know that there was some website glitch around the time I uploaded Jade Moon 1.3, and pages for files uploaded since then typically need to be refreshed about 3 times before they show up. The glitch also often keeps the newer stuff from showing up by name in the mod browsing part of the site...all issues are cured by hitting the refresh button whenever necessary as many times as necessary.

Also, when you see a file with an extension of .7z, in case you aren't familiar with it, that's a 7zip compressed folder (7zip is a free file compressor but get it from the actual 7zip site to avoid "addonware")

That said,
Delinquent did some fine work back in the day;
His Raxus Prime and Pestox are great maps if you want to get absorbed into the expansive and rather believable environment while at the same time not losing too much in terms of gameplay, while his Imperial Base map, while still large and detailed, is a bit more compact and the fight is a bit more fierce, with the only downside of having a LOD view setting that could've been increased a bit (the distant walls tend to fade out of existence).

Honoghr: Crash Site is a much more recent map by FelipeGabe that in my opinion has the same feel of Delinquent's work, and is very polished:

Also check out his more recent Alzoc 3 - Blizzard (also polished):
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/22 ... alzoc_3.7z

Manaan: Murky Depths, by Astute, is a classic:

Geonosis: Freight Dock by Locutus is well built with solid gameplay:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20915543/ge7.zip

Alderaan: Lakeside by bobfinkl might win the prettiest nature map award, at least with graphics turned up:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/17386732/ald.exe

Mos Eisley Spaceport by Rends wins the most-faithful-to-the-movies award and is very detailed and very well done:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/14665837 ... ley_v1.zip

Torvik: Sunken City by Xavious is a nice small map with good swamp atmosphere:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/15065207/torvik.zip

Korriban: Valley of the Dark Lords by martin105038 is excellent considering that I think it's the creator's first map, and is great if you feel the need to express your inner Indiana Jones:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/17275421 ... _lords.zip

Saleucami Valley by GuitarMan & Schizo, aside from it's custom sides, looks like it would be what LucasArts/Pandemic would've created had they decided to do a Saleucami map:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/11 ... valley.zip

Don't overlook Ancient Research Facility by Squipple:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/51 ... ffinal.zip

Verena Defence: Immortal by Arcane_Penguin is a good large scale map:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/5511755/vdi.rar
as are most of the maps by Darth Daddy (make sure to check out version 3 of Kashyyyk Forest):
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... addy;21221

Hoth Underground by ={|BR3@K3R|}= works well for 1 on 1 LAN games with a friend:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/10073697/hug.zip

Servorum: Swamp is a very respectable swamp by Yankfan:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/13541534/ssa.exe

When I was new to SWBF2 mods, before I started making any, I was fascinated by the Rise of the Empire "series" found at the bottom of this page:
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... Revan;8084

Mav's Rebel Ops missions (1, 2, & 3) are well-made and a nice diversion from the typical BF2 gameplay style. His other maps are generally good to excellent as well.

Enjoy!

"Ep. 2 Geonosis XL Final Offensive" by stager00

This is one of the most insane mods ever invented - we have a space and ground map together, with Jedi, Acklay, Geonosians, Clones and Droids everywhere on an expansion of a shipped map, not to mention it's all in a massive Uber/XL kind of mode. One of my favorite maps overall.
