Changing Visibility of an Object Based on Player Location

Is it possible to change the opacity of an object based on the player's location relative to that object? For example, you have a cube. The closer the player is to the cube, the more see through the cube is. From a distance, the cube would be completely solid, but when close to the cube, it would be nearly invisible. Is it possible to do that? There's a similar effect if you walk through a command post hologram. It's already see through, but it gets even more see through when you get close to it. I would like to achieve the same effect with an object.

If it's definitely not possible, someone please let me know.

Thanks!

I had never thought of that before. I'll try that first. Well, looks like it's about time to start learning how to make objects! Haha!
