Not bad for a beginner after only a day, the proportions look good from what I can tell in that one screenshot. Did you model the montrals and lekku too? One side is black, maybe turn on the scene headlight in your display options if it isn't already. Does it have Battlefront mitten hands or are you modeling fingers as well?

Yep, you can use the unit_template from psych0fred, theres a link in the XSI FAQ sticky. You can find links to everything you need there, press ctrl+f and search "unit_template_beta".

thx yes I did model the montrals, currently Im using the mitten hands but I might change it later
edit: what if my model doesn't match the skeleton, since my model has the arms down and the skeleton has the up
edit: also the tuttorial is confusing, I think all I have to do is{tell me if Im wrong} click on my mesh then set envolpe>yes>click on all bones>right click>change 2 to 1 . Is that correct?

1. If the model differs from the skeleton then you can adjust the bones to fit the model, then key the bones in the new position.
imp_inf_officer.msh and imp_inf_atatcommander.msh are working examples of A-pose characters using a T-pose basepose.msh.

2. Yep, you got it!
The whole process is not as complicated as it first seems, after you do it once you'll be like "I can't believe how easy this is!".

Did you edited and weighted the enveloped weights too? If not then the whole model would look messed up in game.
