Merging files

Post by Slamdance »

Ok, so i have two model files. One is my characters body, the other is the head. I don't seem to be able to copy and paste one to the other, so is there another way of getting them together? I searched but couldn't find anything, any help is appreciated.

File->Merge

If you really couldn't see it when it's plainly there, you can always look in the XSI help.

My guess would be that you should try and import the head onto the body. Just open your body file, go to the file drop down menu and select import, then double click the head file.

I tried this and it gave me an error. It said "Unable to create object".

Going to make an assumption that when you are talking model you mean an emdl file as opposed to two mesh objects in XSI

Just make new scene, import model 1 then import model 2.

Or save both models a XSI scene files. Meaning make new scene import model 1 save scene, new scene import model 2 save scene. Now with the second scene still open do File merge and select your first saved scene and both should be merged into one. Save that scene with a new name.
What version of XSI are you using? If it is modtools it might not support the scene merge, haven't tried to be honest.

OK, so at the moment i have the two files as .exp. I have tried saving them as .emdl but they end up as model.emdl.exp.

Also i am running mod tool 6.01.

Okay exp is the native xsi modtool scene save format so you said when you open one scene say the body and go to file merge and call up the other file it gives you a error right. That may mean the function may not be supported in modtools.
Here is what you can do instead, use crosswalk to export one of your scenes as a .xsi file. Then open the other scene and do a crosswalk .xsi import that should work.
