i have searched for this but I haven't found something that can help me. So I asked this here (maybe again).
How I can modify an original side. Only change the skins, for example all republic units? I mean the rep side (for example on coruscant, deathstar..). And can I play with this changed skins online too?
Have I to use a hex editor? Is there a topic or a tut. for that?

Some models have override textures. So you needn't hexedit them. (B1 droids i think have override and the ep3 clones, too)

Online: It depends on what kind of mod you want to do. Do you want te replace the stock sides for the whole game (like BF Evolved)[1] Or do you want to make a new era (like BFX, DT)[2], or (what i think you want) just replace the stock sides from your own custom map[3].

So if you want to make 2 or 3 it's not problem there will be no online problem. If 1 it also works if you just change textures and mesh. if you change some values it will crash the game.

If you want a simple skin change side replacement all you have to do is copy the common side folder and the side you will be changing then paste in your data_modID\Sides folder. (after making changes to the skins) Munge then take your new lvl files and install it like any other side replacement.
