Aw, now Lucasarts won't be able to continue making loads of great games. Look at all the amazing stuff we got in the past 8 years.

Oh wait. We've gotten nothing. Kinda hard for me to get heart broken. That happened a long... long time ago.

On principle however, I'm a bit mad at Disney for basically killing a company.

I see all of these changes as a step in the right direction. LucasArts always appeared to be bloated to me while falling back on the name, some of the more recent popular Star Wars games were developed outside of LucasArts anyway. There have been many layoffs and studios shutdown all over leaving many experienced game devs without work and I see this as an opportunity for them to come together with fresh ideas and launch new studios to create even more awesome Star Wars content for us to enjoy. I think the future is bright.

I split your post into a new thread where the info can be found easier.

Well, he's had the SWBF1 LUA scripts all this time. It might be that while he doesn't have the actual source code for BF1 or BF2, he might have an acquaintance that does.

I've already contacted him in regards to whether he knows anyone I can get in touch with, so I guess we'll see.

***EDIT***

Also contacted an ex-Rainbow Studios lead about Star Wars: Racer Revenge and a possible source release.

I wont buy the new star wars. I wont buy the new games because disney wont get any money from me. I know one Persons that dont buy is not going to hurt them but this act is nothing then a theft (maybe bad translation sorry :/ )

Disney is dead for me. Just to quote THEWULFMEN

I'm bummed, but they haven't lost a customer. As AceMastermind said, they've been going down the toilet recently. Force Unleashed and its sequel were good, but having owned Kinect Star Wars, it wasn't. Aside from that there's Clone Wars, which was terrible, and LEGO Star Wars III, which went from simple kid-friendly gameplay to more complex, which ruined it IMO.

I miss the LucasArts that was 10 years ago, but I don't miss who they were the last few years. Things can only go up at this point.

TFU games kinda sucked, they were the games that were only good for 1 play through, and that was it, no modding support either. VERY linear gameplay and hack and slash fighting is very boring.

The problem with the TFU games is that everyone had much higher expectations due to how high they were talked up. They weren't bad, but at the end it was just a playthrough and trade in. Enjoyable, but only big fans would keep the game. Now that mods are available for it, though, I'm coming back to it.

@minilogoguy18 -- I popped in over at JKHub. I noticed they wanted to remove all the old Xbox code. Frankly it seems like a freshman mistake to do so. "Cleaning" working code doesn't help anything, and often inadvertently breaks things. It might get me interested in modding over on that front again, though; especially since SWBF modding is dying a slow death.

Speaking of TFU, what are the chances of getting ahold of THAT source? I mean, the source LA would own would be the Xbox/Playstation versions, but would you call Aspyr a developer of the PC/Mac version if all they did was port it from the Xbox/Playstation version? Do they own that code?

Just LMK how I can help, we're always excited to hear about more people wanting to mod. The good thing too coming from this community which is heavily Softimage based JA can be modded too using Mod Tool 7.5 since vehicles, player models and animations are all exported as dotXSI 3.5 files.

As far as the XBOX thing goes, I may be someone who people will listen to over there since I've been around since 2004 but what the coders do is up to them. We have some VERY competent coders that did some amazing things even without the games source (most impressive was a mod that made it like Portal) so I'm confident they could strip the useless XBOX stuff out without hurting anything.

I also made a full biped rig for quick and easy character animations with a video tutorial on it on youtube under my name. Working on a character tutorial atm.

Another nice thing now is that I'm talking to retired JA modders who are comming out of retirement, even Mike Gummelt who was a programmer and modded the game after release seems interested again, claiming the games were his fav. He's posting as changkahn on the Kotaku site with the news article about LA closure.

This has made me like Disney even less.

On the bright side, though...

does this mean our chances of getting the BF2 source code are slightly higher?

^Definitely, the hardest hurdle for you though is finding out WHO has it since Pandemic no longer exists and the games source may have gone through a few hands by now. Lucky for the JK community Raven is still around.

I don't think EA is willing to give up their property so easily.

It would be fun to buy the license And source and our own bf3 :)

Snippet from an email exchange with an ex-dev:
If the Battlefront source code was to be released it would have to come from Lucasarts because they continued to work with it on other platforms (consoles, XBLive, and we were trying to get BF2 released on PSN as a PS2 Classic) long after Pandemic was sold and dissolved. I think Pandemic owned the engine which means EA owns it now while Lucasarts owned their games created with it.

Why? They did the right thing - LucasArts has been garbage since like 2007/8-ish. It's not like they're not going to produce anymore Star Wars games or anything, they're just doing what the Dark Brotherhood would call a Purification, LOL; they're cleansing the game development field of the corporation of its filth.

Disney knows nothing but quality (heh, in most cases anyway).

Yeah...but Disney has had it's fair share of screw ups as well. I just think everyone is a little emotionally confused at the current momnet about how they feel regarding the change.

Regarding the release of source code, what could we do with SWBFII if the source code was released?

We have acces to all lua commands we can make broken commands work we can fix the problem with the max missions we can update the directx version... We can make a better game
And have acces to the msh exporter which means that we can make it work with the newer xsi versions

I wouldn't hold my hopes so high, given that Disney MIGHT STILL want to make BFIII. Or given that EA might not want to release the code at all for who-knows-what reason. How much of ex-Pandemic employees are not part of EA now?
