Animation...correct me if I'm wrong here

I want to animate a door. I looked over the animation guide and got a little bit out of it. Still kind of fuzzy to me. The door is on the back of a tank I'm making and it will open up like so:

l ---> / ---> __

sorry for the crappy lines, but that gives you an idea. :lol:

1. I know I have to use nulls, and I think the nulls are a child to the parent, correct? Can I name the nulls anything and do I animate the door just using XSI, or is there separate software?

2. Can that door be later attached to the vehicle using nulls?

3. Nulls are still a bit confusing, can someone provide a visual example because I cannot use Unwrap or anything else because my computer kinda sucks... Thank you!

Have a look at this, it is for flyers but the principle is the same.

Oh and if this is for a vehicle that is meant to be driven I believe someone mentioned take off animations may not work for hover vehicles which I am assuming the tank would be. I may stand corrected on that as I just looked at the odf doc and there is a parameter for AnimationName it still might not do what you want but you can always try.

Alright, thank you. But another question: What the heck is a .rar file?!

EDIT: I guess I need the WinArchive or whatever it is right?

EDIT: Got it, reading tutorial now. Thanks!

Yea...I'm gonna make a video and post it on youtube and then give you a link to that. In that video, I'll show my model and what I need explained :) Because honestly, every guide I've looked at shows the same thing. None of it is explained as to how it actually works in BF2. For all I know, I'm just placing things here and there and I have no clue what I'm doing. It's such a bother that I cannot do this by myself and I'm sure I'm a bother to you all, but I would love to complete this project and possibly take in as much knowledge as possible for future possibilities... :faint:

Thank you.
