Changing lightsaber color help

Hello there!

I am so glad that you people keep modding and making Battlefront a great game... even 6 years after release it is fun to play!

Thank you. That goes first of all.

I however wanted to open this topic to ask for help. I am a noob as a modder, I got no idea. I only did some small things at modding Marvel Ultimate Alliance (colaborated in a the Punisher mod).

I downloaded Modding tools hoping modding Battlefront II would be as easy as MUA, but it isn't.

I just wanted to do a minor change and I seem to be so slumsy I cannot do it.

I wanted to change Yoda's and Count Dooku's lightsaber color to violet, Mace Windu's color.
Just that.

So I looked at some readmes and folder and files structure. I found the ODFs I should change in assets/sides, I also found the MSH files I should change too. But I seem to be stupid enough not to know how to use the tools to copy this changes into the .lvl files in the gamedata.

I don't know how to munge this changes.

I tried using the Munge tool included in the tools and the editor, but nothing... they seem to be prepared to edit and munge maps, and I cannot use it properly.

Please, anybody can give me a step by step guide? Sorry to ask.

And thank you anyhow.

welcome on gametoast!
in order to change the lightsabercolors you first of all have to set up a custom map with the visualmunge you can through the programlist in the startmenu. then you have to modify the faction (side) that contains the lightsaber you want to change and then munge it with the custom map. then you can either use the modified side on the custom map or a global side for all maps.you can find a tutorial about making custom sides here
furthermore the modtools contain a documentationfolder with documentations that explains many areas of modding in-depth.

thank you! I will try it hard (do or do not lol) this friday...

I just find difficult to understand this part "then you can either use the modified side on the custom map or a global side for all maps."

If I create a side on a custom world, can I later munge it so that this side is a global one?
If it this is explained in the guide for sides, don't worry I will read it.

Thanks again!!!

This is all explained explained in the tuto, I think. About the sides, if you make a custom side, you can always revert to the custom sides. Read the tuto for more info. :)
Oh and Welcome to Gametoast! :D

I failed, lol.

I did not have a map, so I started a new one from scratch. XXX was its name.

Then I only loaded there are the layers and saved it.

I went to edit sides. I copied CIS and REP folders from the assets and edited the ODF for the violet lightsaber to be referenced in both the texture and the effects.

Then I copied the files in the MSH folder, for the violet saber to exist in CIS MSH folder.

I checked for the extra work, and understood that I needn't do anything else apart from copying the Common and then I did not know whether I should add some dc: in the lua files or not...

I munged... nothing changed lol

Dooku's saber is still red and Yoda's is still yellow.

A pity lol

Don't have much time because of work right now... maybe I try again in the future...

you have to ad the "dc:" in your missions lua when you load the sides you modified. it tells battlefront to load the sides from the maps sidefolder rather than the games global side.
