[help] Texture quality/resolution and effects on performance

I was just wondering, does the resolution and quality of a skin affect performance (all my 512x512 skins in my mod have been made from, for example, 512x512 at 144 pixels-per-inch, to 1024x1024 at 16384 pixels-per-inch. one skin is at 1536x1536 at 24-something-thousand ppi).

Of course it will, rendering textures in most game engines actually is more costly than high geometric detail. Though with the machines out now a days I find it hard to believe that a unit model in game with a 1024* texture will really slow things down.

battlefront itself can handle textures with high resolution pretty well (even though ze crashes with textures up from 2048²px). take a look at the conversionpack heroassault with all the jka-units. mos of them have atleast 3 512px textures and it doesnt affect the performance (atleast not for me)

Yes of course, but like minilogoguy said, it shouldn't matter most of the time. Unless you are modding Empire at War, with hundreds of 1024 textures on the screen at once, it shouldn't be an issue.

Uh. Textures have to be a power of 2, and 1536x1536 is not a power of two.
These dimensions are a power of two.
2x2
4x4
8x8
16x16
32x32
64x64
128x128
256x256
512x512
1024x1024(a good texture size for unit models in my opinion)
2048x2048
4096x4096(the largest SWBF2 can handle)
Also, any combination of the above works as well, like 512x1024.
