GHWT v Rock Band 2

Fall/Winter of 2008 will see to giants in the rhyme based genre of gamin will clash. GHWT v RB2. Who will win? Which will you buy?

Discuss anything and everything GHWT and RB2. Songs you want, things you're excited about. Which instruments do you like more/want.

Also in GHWT Hayley Williams is going to be in it. And these guys too....Ted Nugent, Sting, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix, and Zakk Wylde.

I'm siding with GHWT because of DLC for Wii, online, character creator...pretty everything Rock Band for the Wii didn't have and more. Plus everyone else (meaning hte majority of us) are going to buy RB2.

GHWT Of Course.

1) Rock Band 1 doesn't come out in Australia until December.
2) GHWT has DLC for Wii and Wifi enabled, so I am getting it for Wii.
3) GH has always been fun

Rock Band hands down. The GHWT create-a-song thing is a joke, and a total n00b fest. I can see the annoyingly horrid songs and terrible charts now. That coupled with the fact that Neversoft sucks at charting songs means I am, and always be a Harmonix guy. I mean as someone who's played guitar for 14 years, 50% of all Neversoft charts make no musical sense whatsoever. Often they put in X or Y riff/chord in just to up the difficulty, but it won't fit the song. Guitar Hero Aerosmith absolutely wreaks of this. What a steaming pile that game is.

Rock Band 1 and 2 DLC will be cross compatible as well, which makes a big difference. Harmonix is an established company in the music-game genre, having games that pre-date the original Guitar Hero. Plus putting Rock Band next to GH3/GHA you can see the difference in quality. Harmonix has done it longer, and it shows.

Yet another reason Neversoft sucks is they ruined/removed a number of characters. Izzy and Lars look worse than ever, and Johnny Napalm -- who I actually used to use -- looks like he's 60 years old. They didn't include Pandora, who's like a GH icon. I mean they melded her into Judy Nails (who's the one character they did awesome) but they shouldn't have nixed her. Casey Lynch they did pretty good on I guess, but she was hard to mess up. Straight hair, bikini top and leather pants. Done. And then they add that useless character Midori.

Real men play Harmonix games. It's a proven fact  I'll stick with the pros of the genre. They've got a new rockin' drum set that pwnz the GHWT set, plus the old set is compatible. PLUS they still are using licensed guitars in-game, whereas there's the build-a-guitar feature in GHWT. Now I love customization as much as the next guy, but too much is too much. GHWT will fail because so many people own Rock Band. No way I'm going to buy a new game and all the equipment twice.

I do agree with you on some things Tean others I'm not so sure about.

Neversoft has the Create-a-song uploader maxed to 5 uploads meaning it won't be spammed by r-tards. So you can only had more if you're DLC is very popular. I think this is great, because now people can have all or just about all the songs that have been in the GH franchise and RB franchise.

And of course Harmonix came before GH. They made amplitude and many other awesome games.
50% of all Neversoft charts make no musical sense whatsoever.
This makes sense though, they're coming from a videogame developer's view point of how can we make this harder. Not Harmonix's how close can we get to this song.

Also Neversoft is bringing back ALL characters that have ever been in GH series for World Tour. Meaning Clive and Pandora are back. And like you said it,
Harmonix has done it longer, and it shows.
Neversoft was thrown the GH franchise and had a limited time to make it and make it decent and get the hang of it. in GHWT i believe Neversoft will show they know what they are doing and in a few more months they'll start to have the experience of Harmonix.

Meh, GH: Aerosmith sucked majorly, and DLC for RB1 is backwards compatible.

Rockband 2 all the way.

I just got Rock Band for the Wii, and generally, the quality of everything - the peripherals, the game modes, the MUSIC as a whole - was alot better. Rock Band FTW.

GHWT. I played rock band once, Thought it completely stunk. And the people at Vicarious Visions have porven they're quite good at making games look bad on commercials, but the game is actually very good (GHOT).

You do know that Pandora's already back, she was just used in GHOT.

Sure, sure. She's back, which is nice. But even on top of the character issues I have with the game I just think the Guitar Hero series went in the toilet when Neversoft took over. Again, mostly due to the fact that they can't chart songs to save their lives. But my biggest beef with Guitar Hero World Tour is the create-a-song feature. I'm sorry, but there's just no way to do something like that and not make it utter fecal matter. There's also the new guitars which have that terrible 'gimmickyness' to them with the new slide feature. That's just retarded to me.

If people want to go out and get GH World Tour then so be it. But Harmonix is, and always will be the king of music-based games. I don't care if Neversoft makes it so you have groupies follow you around, Rock Band as a series will always win.

Have you guys seen the new Rock Band 2 drum sets? They've got the good ole' set that can have attached cymbals (that aren't in the way like GHWT's) plus they've got that awesome Ion drum set.

I'm soooooo buying Rock Band 2 since the DLC is cross-compatible. And check this out:
Source = Shacknews.com article

Harmonix also noted that in addition to Rock Band 1 DLC compatibility, Rock Band 2 will include a Disc Export Feature. It will give owners of the original game "the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay"
So I can just rip the first disc to use it as DLC in Rock Band 2????? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*edit* -- HOLY CRAP! They just mentioned TWENTY free DLC songs too!

I'm sorry, but Guitar Hero World Tour just got served. Bigtime.

84 setlist from RB2 + 59 setlist from RB1 + 160 DLC for RB1 + 20 DLC for RB2.

323 songs for Rockband 2 already! :o

Wow, Guitar Hero just got pwned.

What about all this stuff for for Wii? Has that been confirmed?

They haven't mentioned Rock Band DLC for the Wii, but the Harmonix press conference is tomorrow.

And I just gotta say to those GHWT fans -- I'm not saying it won't be a great game. I'm sure it will. It's just that Rock Band 2 will rock so much harder and anyone who uses GHWT (or Rock Revolution by Konami) will just be using the "other guy's" product. It's like buying a Madcatz controller when you can get a Logitech controller for the same price.

Hmm.. Are the rockband drums still really loud when you hit them, I heard it sounds dreadful...

Also that setlist is superb. Good to see some of my faves like Rise Against and SOAD. If RB1 is released this year in Aus, I am hoping for RB2 >.<

They just posted some interviews for GH World Tour over at http://www.gametrailers.com (I got them from http://www.e3expo.com ). I dunno, it just doesn't look like my kind of game. I dig the tunes that they've revealed so far, but I couldn't give a hoot about making songs, nor downloading some other no-name's song to try out. Plus I can't stand that the GHWT drum cymbals are right in your face. If they were adjustable that'd rock, but they're obtrusive.

GHWT as of now, I'm still bitter about the complete lack of features in Rock Band Wii.
