Copying Alpha Channels

ZOMG! Train is back from the dead! Yea, I'm still working on map stuff (BOC).

Anyways, I have two skins one of which has an alpha channel in it and the other does not. The alpha channel created a kind of "transparency hole" in the first skin. What I wanted to do was transfer that hole to the second skin so that the second skin has a transparency hole in it to. I've tried several times without success (generally just getting the alpha channel to show up on top of the second skin) so help would be appreciated. :)

decompose both in gimp, copy and paste alpha layer, compose in gimp to 1 layer with transparency.

Ok, I well when I go to decompose them I get a radio button list of channels including:

RGB
RGBA
Alpha
And some other stuff I don't think is relevant.

Which one should I be selecting? The same goes for when I'm composing again. And I should be adding the alpha to selection from the first decomposed texture and pasting it on the second decomposed texture (and thats the one that I compose) right?
