Boolean Difference Freezing

I have a fairly large model (not necessarily complex) that I'm trying to cut a big corridor into.

This is the venator model I'm talking about here. At the nose, it has a flat front where the hangar entrance is supposed to be. I insert the box through this flat surface. Mind you, the area where the box penetrates the surface of the model is compltely flat, no bends nothing. The box does not cross over any edges or points. All of the intersecting edges are contained within a single polygon.

Here's a pic so you'll understand.

[edit] ugh, I messed up the pic, just take my work for it that there are no edges there. That octagon on the front is a single polygon.

Now when I hit Boolean difference, and pick the box, XSI freezes up. I am not sure why. I've done this before with a simple two boxes intersecting each other. This box only crosses the model in one location and its very simple too. I don't understand why XSI is taking so much power to accomplish this simple task. I used a fairly long box there, but even with a short box, it doesn't work.

I made the video assuming train knew how to use the hotkeys, but here's what I did in the order that I did it:

Press the S key to navigate the scene
Press the \ key to draw 2 vertical edges creating the needed rectangle
Press the U key to go into raycast polygon selection
Select the rectangle polygon
Press ctrl+d to duplicate the rectangle polygon
Press the X key to scale the new polygon in X and Y axis
Press ctrl+d again to duplicate the polygon once more
Press the V key to translate the duplicated polygon in the -Z axis

Hope...this...helps... :P

Ok, I started to do what your video showed me. But then when I tried to create the edge, it wouldn't let me connect the points. I could select one point and start the edge there but then it wouldn't let me select th other point on the otherside of the polygon.
