i don't know if this goes here or in mod questions but anyone know how to upload a mod quicker. it takes me like 2 hours and internet eating lag to upload a mod to gamefront/filefront. i make some custom scripts sometimes and change sides so the file is like 4GB+. if anyone knows a really fast upload spot, (or if i can email it) please tell me.

I advise you to use 7-zip. It's free, and many file formats are supported.
You can, plus of that, make self-extractible archives, with a big compression ratio.

If you have installed 7-zip, do like this:
1. If your mod folder is called "ABC", right-click on the ABC folder
2. In the menu, go to 7zip ==> Add to archive
3. Set up the "7z" compression, take the level "Ultra", and check the "Make SFX" case.
4. Click on OK and wait.

Normally, the compressed file can be reduced A LOT. Ex:
450 MB, using the 7z compression, ultra compression level ==> 115 MB. (During the compression you can get a ration of about 30 - 40%)
If the file is still too big, so make an installer with Inno Setup. For that, search in the FAQ "Make an installer for a mod/map".

don't know what compression rate is bigger 7zip or Win RAR?? is free too and suports more than 7zip. i have both but most time use WinRar. you get some new context menus for some exporting options too.

No, WinRAR costs 44€ and the demo is active for 40 days. Also, try to compare a compressed .rar to a compressed .7z with ultra compression. There's a big difference.

We're going off-topic :?

off-topic: I've compressedthe Naboo: Prototype assets to 7z and compared them with the original files. Result:
RAR: 22 MB
7z: 10 MB.
And for me WinRAR isn't free. But if you want to use WinRAR, so use WinRAR, I'm not advertising 7zip in any way...

In my experience, winRAR extract files more quickly, but 7zip compresses them more (.7z format). I know that at least 7zip can make self-extracting archives so ANYONE can open them even if they don't have winRAR, winZIP, 7zip, etc.

I recommend using 7zip for the better compression.

The best thing you can do for yourself when you ask for help is to make sure that you read the help you're given:

Of course, your real issue is that you've got a 4GB!! file. There is really no reason to have something that large; that's more than half the size of the whole game.

ok well never worked well for me but i'll test it out.
also how would i make a side mod that has all the units, tanks, heros, weapons, etc. for a dedicated server without it being like 4GB

EDIT: ok so i made a mistake (i checked the size of the wrong file) it is about 664 MB which i removed some stuff and made it about 330MB then i got 7z working and it is now at about 30MB. now i how i can upload more things (hope filefront is working right now). this will work for my engineer mod and now my darky mod i could even make a new version of MMW that saves space.

EDIT2: i uploaded it to filefront, um how long does it usally take to load on to the site? i upload and wait a day then i can download. well waiting isn't that bad i got some custom skins to make.

That's a different thing. Your file has now a size of 30 MB. Then, you have 3 possibilities:

You upload it to FileFront, without an account: The file will be automatically deleted afer 30 days.
You upload it to FileFront, with an account: The file will be available for a long, long time, and you can delete it when you want.
You upload it to SWBFiles, with or without account: It's a better solution if your mod is finished. You can host beta versions, but the file will be available for everyone, and if you want to dlete the file, you need to contact a FileFront staff.

4gb is beyond monstrous. That's the size of the actual game!

I agree! The ConvoPackitself is "only" 700 MB big!

Mod has been uploaded but is not visable on the site so i guess it was two days not one. (well i got a mod to make for my friend...)

Gamefront = old FileFront.
SWBFiles = starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com

If you upload a file with or without account on FileFront, it will be available immediatly. But if you upload it to SWBFiles, so the file will be reviewed by a staff member, then it will be publicly available.
