So what am I missing?

Hi, all. I'm new to BF2 modding an map making, and I've run into a few snags I cannot figure out.
First off, I am following both the documentation that came included with the editor, as well as Fierfek's tutorial from Filefront, so that's the process I'm following.
I made a map (just a small test map for concept) and munged it, but a couple things happen when I try to open it ingame. Firstly, the map name does not appear, just the code and some symbols (yes, I'm patched to most recent), and the description is the same. Then, when I try to run it, the game crashes and I get an error saying it could not open "mission.lvl"
I assume I am missing a step, somewhere in the creation process, but I have no clue what. I've done this multiple times, created two maps (just to be sure) and have the same result.
Also, what is the full process for deleting a made map?
Thank you in advance!

it seems like he clearly knows what he's doing and what he wants to achieve.

anyway, welcome at gametotast codex!
you should create a bfront2log with the bf2modtools.exe and post it here. how to do that si eyplained in the faq of the topic mrcrayons second link leads to.

it sounds like something went wrong with the mungeprocess were you ever able to pay the map?

I am curious; did you ever try to munge-and-play after some of the smallest changes. You may want to do this a lot until you get to be really-really good at map-making/modding (I'm still doing it and so are a lot of us).

Oh and one more thing-Welcome to GameToast!

Sounds like he's having the quick munge problem. - A problem we are going to be seeing more, and more, as Windows 7 and Vista are becoming more, and more used.

just delete it from your addon and or from your bf2_modtools folder
( and for windows 7 your addon folder in compatibility files )
easy

EDIT: oh btw welcome to GT :)

@DarthD.U.C.K. I've tried multiple times to generate a log, but the file won't generate. I'm guessing it might crash too early to register anything?
@linksith It does this from beginning to end, even if I make no changes, or if I make quite a few changes.
@fasty Yes, I am running Windows 7. I will try the workaround and let you all know if it worked. That seems most likely to me. I've already had quite a few Win7 problems with older programs.
@acryptozoo Thanks, I just couldn't find the compatibility copy. Stupid Windows 7.
I'll try the Win7 fix and see if that works. Thank you, everyone.

Edit:
I ran the fix (thanks, fasty) and the munge took a LOT longer and it works now. So it's a processor speed issue or something? Like that old Red Faction submarine glitch? :P
No surprise Windows was the problem. Thanks for the help, everyone. I like this site, already. Very friendly and helpful.

just run both munges in compatlibe mode for windows xp service pack 3(you'll have to have admin access though)

I doubt it was a processor issue. Windows 7 might have installed a bit differently (due to the motherboard model and all that technical motherboard stuff) which could have caused a registry error. I'm glad your problem is gone and that you like GameToast (when I came to GameToast I kept getting on it repeatedly for days :funny2: )

Windows 7 isn't stupid, some computers have it installed differently and it seems :quotes: stupid. I'm not sure why but my computer didn't need the fix.
