Battlefront file structure / sound file use help.

Ok, not *quite* a mod question, but if anyone knows the answer it'll be you guys. It's also not exactly BF 2 centric (it's a BF 1 issue, but the answer should apply to both so...):

Does anyone know what the files \_LVL_X\Sound\xxx.lvl are used for (this is on xbox/ps2)? Obviously they're sound files for maps, but what sound does it actually contain, and what's the error handling like if they're not accessible?

I ask as I have an xbox BF 1 disc that's giving read errors on the last .5% of \_LVL_XBOX\Sound\rhn.lvl and isn't even starting with \_LVL_XBOX\Sound\kas.lvl, yet both levels appear to load and play fine (tried in galactic conquest and historical mode (i think that's right) with both clone and galacticy dudes (no, I'm not a *huge* fan...). My guess is it's background sound or something, and with it inaccessible it just doesn't play that, but everything sounds normal. I expected a straight out crash when loading the level/s but ain't getting that.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

Those cover sounds on a per-map basis. My suggestion is to go to your nearest gaming store and pay 2.99 to get your disc resurfaced. It's cheap and most places will give you a 90 day warranty on the new surface.

yeah, I kinda guessed that much with the "sound" and "map name" in the file path  was wondering what actual sound (or sound use code, apparently some .lvl files for BF contain only this) there was, and what happened when they weren't there, as from what I can see nothing happens (at least no show stopping errors) when loading the given map for said missing sound file. So either's it's commentary for certain points in the map (which I never got to), some other kinda sound that was never asked to load, an irrelevant file that is rarely used (or hear) and doesn't cause any harm even if it needs to be and ain't there.... or the xbox handles file reading/loading a different way from my FTP client (I'm thinking this one) :?

As for resurfacing, that's actually why I ask. Wondering if there's a need to spend £1.99 when it could well not be needed.

The sounds that would be in there would be ambient sounds: background music, map-specific sounds, and some voiceovers (e.g. out-of-bounds). That is assuming that things are set up like they are on PC.

thanks for that, big help. I'm sure I got the out of bounds message on one of the maps though which is kinda confusing, though maybe something to do with the 48-byte chunk structure of the files - http://personal.riley-man.com/swbf/edit ... tream.html - maybe some can be read and some can't. Anyway, I presume it's not the end of the world if some aren't available. Maybe I should just play the maps longer and see what happens....
